    We head out of camp about 10am and across the highway to the Emerald Mound. Emerald Mound is an 8 acre, Mississippian Period Ceremonial Mound. Built and used between 1200 and 1730 by the American Indians that resided in the Mississippi Valley.     Grant and Sherman were quite horrified over the casualties, even though the Union suffered less than 5,000 and the Confederates 3,500 in the one day. Not being complacent here, it's just that I've seen fields with heavier casualties given the number involved.
