Day 47. Monday 29th September. Salida to Hutchison-Burnett Cow Camp Cabin. We're writing this entry in the Hutchison-Burnett Cow Camp Cabin at 10,800 feet. It's snowing quite heavily outside and we're listening to the wind blow through the trees and the snow patter on the roof of the hut. The wood burner is on, it's now toasty warm, we've just had dinner and a hot chocolate, and we have the place to ourselves. There are even wooden beds for us to sleep on. It's been ...

Owner is the only guy that works there, turned out to ...

All good fun here. Now that we're in the Colorado mountains temperatures are much more pleasant. After Canyonlands NP (UT) & then Colorado NM (near Grand Junction) we thought we were over canyons but Black Canyon of the Gunnison was quite different - steep sided, hard black rock rather than ...

It was very cold and wet this morning. We all ate a good breakfast in preparation for riding up Monarch Pass. Everything took so long to dry, because it was still cloudy. It was a pain. My muscles were so cold, and the climb started practically immediately from camp. I had already told Chris and Kirsty not to worry about waiting for me if I fell behind, and they lost me after the 3rd mile. I didn't feel pressure to go at their pace and ...
