... Kerosene Creek. We didn't know if there was a certain spot to stop at, but there were a few cars there and not many people to be seen. ... and the wind was creating quite a choppy sea. We found a seat at the back of the boat this time, and Helen tucked herself behind Tony so she was partly sheltered from the oncoming spray. Tony took the full force of the gale, straight into his face to protect his woman!! It would have been easier and drier if we had just gone inside the boat but it was more fun to ride the waves at 26 knots an hour.

... 4 of us would be left in charge as Peter & Rae were driving to take Peters mum back after the Christmas gathering. We got a quick run down on how to take payments, shown where the safe was, which emails to reply to etc and that was it, the 4 of us had to run the place, cook any meals people wanted and make sure it all went smoothly! ... out rocks rather than lava and the landscape is dark with streaks of yellow sulphur and bubbling mud pools, quite eerie in fact. In the early part of the last century there was some mining going on for sulphur but it proved unprofitable as well as being dangerous. ... reduced the noise levels to a bearable 200 decibels . Not only did the noise levels improve but so did the weather as we headed south on our 4 hour drive. (Carole - and the captains mood!) Our next stop was at Katikati for lunch. A very pleasant townships, known as " Mural Town", as a lot of the buildings in the centre have murals painted on the walls to brighten the place up.
