We left for Milford Sound at 8:00 am. It was pretty clear in Te Anau but cloudy ahead. We stopped at the Eglington Valley Viewpoint at 8:45 and fog was settled at the base of the mountains in the distance. Our next stop was at Mirror Lake just a few minutes later. We recognised some fellow like minded walkers doing the same thing, getting a decent caffeine fix before heading off.

With guides Gwyn and Jun and 27 fellow walkers we departed downtown Queenstown at 9am in a very comfortable ...

... changed into all kinds of woodland, from Manuka to beech with thick ferns or open forest floor, following the Iris Burn. We reached Moturau Hut on lake Manapouri, still too late to share bunks. Richard managed to get me a bottom bunk and he slept on a top bunk in the same room at least! The evening was wonderful and we had a lovely sunset. The warden was really lovely and no pet talk! The next morning we left in good time and walked mainly through the ...
