... from Queenstown runs along a huge lake 50k long and on the other side are a couple of sheep stations that are only accessible by boat but amazingly there is a stretch of preserved railway at the end of the lake from a line that ran down to the sea which brought all the goods and services to this area until they built a proper road in the middle of the last century. We were continuing our journey to Manapouri just south of Te Anu, where we had booked our accommodation for 4 whole nights - a bit of a treat, we might actually be able to unpack properly! On route we noticed that the south of the South Island tended to have more sheep in the fields, this was how we had imagined NZ would be ...

... little hot, and New Zealand was sunny everywhere through to Te Anau. The day that we set off to see the most spectacular site on the South Island, it was of course rainy and foggy. Ugh! Really, on this day?! Well, we had booked a cruise, so we powered on.
The drive in to Milford was indeed curvy and the road was narrow in places. Thankfully, we were booked on an afternoon cruise, and we missed a majority of the large buses on the tight corners. We had ...
