Going with the flow in Milford Sound

We left for Milford Sound at 8:00 am. It was pretty clear in Te Anau but cloudy ahead. We stopped at the Eglington Valley Viewpoint at 8:45 and fog was settled at the base of the mountains in the distance. Our next stop was at Mirror Lake just a few minutes later. ... isn't fulfilling in the long term. In addition, and at the risk of sounding ungrateful for having an opportunity to see this place, I'll go ahead and say that the scenery we've seen so far can all be found in our borders. To inner city Englishman who rocked up in their good going out on the town clothes ...

We soon realized that we were hiking one of the most beautiful trail sections in all of New Zealand. We walked the mountain saddles with complete 360 degree views of the scenery. The trail muddied in sections, and leftover snow laid along the side of the track. The wind gusted and the sun beamed on an absolutely perfect day ...

... created by the action of huge glaciers during repeated ice ages. A note about the helicopters used to fly us out from Martins Bay: they flew to the lodge fully loaded with food each time as that is the way the food is delivered for both lodges. The jet boat takes the food for Pyke Lodge on there. We were given more food and a drink at Te Anau and returned to the motel we had stayed in a few days ago and cooked a meal and prepared to leave for another trip ...
