We lost power at this point so Jeff went out, fixed power, and battened down the hatches. Some time later, around 1:30, the rain came back. ... it didn't really die down for most of the way to the turn off for Hemet. LA seemed to go on forever and once we were out of the city itself it was just suburb after suburb after suburb as far as we drove. We turned south about 16 miles west of Palm Springs and drove south another 15 miles or so to the town of Hemet.
