86 Wellington Street Picton, South Island, New Zealand, 3-573-6833
Arrived in Picton via the sunny climes of Nelson in the pouring rain. How drab did this town look? Luckily the following morning the sun came out and we were able to Kayak the Queen Charlotte Sound with a soul seal and lonely penguin - why does wildlife in NZ always come in ones?! Kayaking was great & this place really changed with the sunshine from being depressing to being stunning.
Picton, South Island, New Zealand cjgrThe Queen Charlotte Track in the Marlborough Sounds is noted in the guide book as something not to be missed. It is a 71k walk along a spectacular ridge with views across dense forest to the waters of Queen Charlotte and Kenepuru sounds on either side. You have the option of breaking the hike into 3 or more days and there are hostels and campgrounds approximately every 20k. The hike is unique in that you access the trail by boat starting at the tip of the sound, working your way back. The wat...

... We had some breakfast at a cafe- I had crepes with strawberries and honey and yogart and some fresh orange juice- i'm worried about my lack of fruit and veg intake so have been eating salads and fruit for meals! We then walked back to the campsite and went on the really slow, expensive internet! Kat tells me her friend Anika is also travelling by herself over xmas so she's going to put me in touch with her, she's really nice so i'm happy about that! At ...
Picton, South Island, New Zealand nicowalaI woke up at 6 am and decided to just take a nice walk around Picton. The quaint adorable town doesn't have much to offer tourist wise, but it is still an amazing site. The greenery, the beach, the hills/montains in the distance, I couldn't ask for anything more nature wise. These are some pictures I took on the beach this morning...and my amazing shell I hope to bring home without any cracking.
... who was a very pleasant chap and very knowledgeable about the area and NZ in general.
After a lazy afternoon looking around Picton, visiting the sea horse centre and looking around the shops we caught to evening ferry to Wellington. The ferry was pretty well equipped so we decided to watch a film in the on board cinema to pass some of the 3 hour journey. On arrival in Wellington we found the hotel with the help of sat nav and discovered a small hitch ...
... but it was a pretty smooth trip. We stopped on the way to walk across NZs longest swing (suspension bridge) across Buller Gorge. I've attached some pictures. Ruth didn't go as she new that there would be those who would cause the bridge to swing and she was ...

Picton, New Zealand ainekerrigan...
Picton, South Island, New Zealand andrea_nz... the harbour mouth we were greeted by about fifty small dolphins who zoomed around the ship, jumping out of the water and chasing each other. The day brightened into clear, sunny skies and we enjoyed a very calm sail across. There was another small pod of dolphins as we approached South Island and then we entered the narrow channels of South Island and were sailing down Queen Charlotte Sound until we reached the port of Picton.
Picton, New Zealand harryandnorah... I woke up early and went for a run, there is a great path close to the hostel that runs along a river/creek/stream. Then I wandered around town, managing to get lost several times. Around three the owner of the hostel, Damian, took myself and several other people out to Indevin to get a look at where we would be working. They were busy preparing ...
