... parking lot, we continued our journey. The next stop was Multnomah Falls. This should have been a really quick stop, as the falls are right off the road. But our first problem was the insane parking. Followed by the MASSES of people on the bridge. By now we were all fairly famished, so we stopped at the Multnomah Lodge for a late lunch (2:30). We didn’t order anything tricky, but our food took an exceptionally long time to come ...

Coming upon any obstacle on the road is always alarming, but more so on a bike the risk of losing control is so much higher. We came home, and just hung around until we went to McGraff's for supper. After coming home, we again just hung around and eventually went to ...

... probably didn't register. The trek up Kilimanjaro is a climb not a hike. You walk on, over, around and between rocks. There are no flat areas. There are areas where you use your hands to climb and it is all pretty much either up or down. Elevation impacts all segments of the effort. Obviously boots are key, but so are gloves and physical conditioning. It is pretty easy to over estimate your ability and under estimate the difficulty of the climb.

    Portland to Salem

... in this case climbing under the carriage connection of the (stopped) train blocking the tracks) and along a storm water drain. It seemed a well worn path as we did come across a couple of others headed in the opposite direction. We took the same bus we'd been using last time we were in Portland, to the MAX station, with Wayne getting off a stop earlier, at the DMV, to sort out our final temporary bike permit of the trip. From the train ...
