We woke up refreshed and revitalised after our relaxing afternoon yesterday at the thermal pools. Today's mission was to get down to Franz Josef, a long day on the road awaited us as it would take around 5hrs to make it. Tim took the first leg of the drive and not long after we left Hanmer it started to rain and rain hard, not ideal weather as we made our way through Lewis Pass which takes you over the southern alps from the east coast to ...

From the car park it was a 30 minute hike up to the terminal face of the glacier. With no Freedom camping allowed near the village we stopped in a campsite (Rainforest Holiday Park) - at least it meant we could have a shower!

If today is anything to go by, it will be a cold few
Drinks this afternoon (yes, I know, something completely
different) to celebrate Lee-Anne & Malcolm becoming grandparents. It really
is going to be different, we’re having afternoon drinks at the wheelhouse as its’
so cold for the back bar.
