... five and checked in to our Ice Encounter tour. We then went to the nearest DOC camp site a dozen clicks north of town for the night. Rain chased us into the van around six thirty.

... then we walked along a track towards Wilson's walkway. When we got there, however, the walks were all over 3hrs and we wanted to get on the road. We drove back into Hokitika and got fish and chips. Teresa went for the local speciality, Turbot, (usually its whitebait but the season doesn't start til tomorrow) and I chose Rig which is a typical NZ fish'n'chip fish. The beach beckoned so we took our lunch there but stayed in the car to avoid the pesky seagulls.
