Nice Facilities- SMOKE FILLED

The bed, western toilet, shower, and sink were all nice and satisfactory. They gave us a nice room, though there was construction out the window at the time, that isn't their fault and if you've been in China long enough, you're used to noise.

The first night was good. The second night, however, we returned to our room and it smelled like someone had a smoking party in our room. It was so bad that I could not breath. I went to the front desk and asked if they could give us another room, because we specifically asked for a non-smoking room, and they simply flat out refused.

Having that much smoke in your room is a health-hazard- it was not just a hint of smoke, it was smoke-filled.

We figured out the source; it was the pipes in the bathroom- the construction is so poorly made that the pipes filter up the smoke from the other smoking rooms in the hotel.

... We stopped at a coffee shop for doughnuts. Then we bought this feather plastic thing- that you kick. It's hard to explain. We went to the museum, library, opera house and tried to go up the tallest building. The museum had cool stuff they found under the sea when ships sailed the silk route. China made pottery and silk to trade. Over all, didn't really like it there was too many people and ...

... the rest of the highway and the railroad that would pass under the overpass would undoubtedly come in the future. Today is that future. Cars everywhere, good roads. I still draw attention as a foreigner, but not like then. The old generation has passed away, but here I see the Chinese meaning of family. We are treated for breakfast by the daughter of the 'gas uncle.' The 'bank cousin' picks us up to bring us to the son of the 'farm uncle.' After ...

... of girls. No dress code, I think, some wear the shortest possible shorts. Average incomes are 6000 to 10000 yuan per month (about 1200 euro/dollar). I see quite informal behavior. We are treated for lunch. Minivan with chauffeur are at our disposition. Separate room with our own waiter await us in a top restaurant. Too bad I don't want to risk upsetting my still tender stomach. When they hear our next stop is Canton, a car and ...

... it was just like fright night at Thorpe park. Our favourite we went on 6 times in the last half an hour before it closed, we kept having to run all the way round the queue as they wouldn't just let us stay on. Yet again we walked about 10miles :o. Today somehow we slept in until 12! We must have been tired. Having a chilled day, trying to save money today. Doing some laundry and taking advantage of all the activities in the hostel, movies, pool, table football and loadsa wii ...

... stopped off briefly at a memorial to Dr Sun Yat Set, who was the first Chinese Prime Minister and overthrew the last emperor. It was a short pit stop while we did a lap of the park. We were left with 2 hours at the shops, Beijing Road - fairly uneventful. Back to the airport and a 9 hour flight to Sydney. Another 2 hour wait in the airport and a bus home to ...
