Nice Facilities- SMOKE FILLED

Reviewed Feb 3, 2013

The bed, western toilet, shower, and sink were all nice and satisfactory. They gave us a nice room, though there was construction out the window at the time, that isn't their fault and if you've been in China long enough, you're used to noise.

The first night was good. The second night, however, we returned to our room and it smelled like someone had a smoking party in our room. It was so bad that I could not breath. I went to the front desk and asked if they could give us another room, because we specifically asked for a non-smoking room, and they simply flat out refused.

Having that much smoke in your room is a health-hazard- it was not just a hint of smoke, it was smoke-filled.

We figured out the source; it was the pipes in the bathroom- the construction is so poorly made that the pipes filter up the smoke from the other smoking rooms in the hotel.

Guangzhou

Guangzhou is the 3rd biggest city in China, and definitely my favorite.
The fastest, cheapest, cleanest subway system I have ever seen.
MANY huge public parks. And much like Beijing, Guangzhou has an ancient town alleyway zone, and a modern skyscraper zone. Although, every street I went on, was fairly narrow, with minimal traffic. There are trees and shade everywhere.

Guangzhou is the leading ...

Dialou Watchtowers

The Dialou watchtowers in Kaiping, Guangdong are some of the most unique pieces of architecture in the world. I say this easily because they were built by rich peasant farmers (already interesting) who had seen western architecture, but had no training in building.
So most often, these 2-5 story local watchtowers begin at the base as Chinese architecture, and then as they continued to build it, they ...

A STRESSFUL ARRIVAL

Well after an emotional farewell at the airport with way to
many tears I finally arrived in china… the flight was not too bad but I had a
massive headache from crying. Thankfully though I managed to sleep through the
whole thing. I was very curious (from my lack of travel experience) and
pleasantly surprised when the plane served “pork and vegetables” which was kind
of like microwave Chinese food. ...

... we start the long flight to Chicago. We will go through customs in Chicago, then it's a short jaunt to Nashville and home sweet home. It was a long journey, but a very fun and rewarding one. We are all looking forward to getting back to the USA. Hope you all enjoyed following along, and thanks for all of your kind comments. We look forward to you meeting little z, he is quite the handful. Next time you hear from us, I imagine we will be on TN. time. -- M, J, Z and ...

... us and then make themselves understood in complex ways. From not knowing their name in some cases to being able to string accurate sentences together, there wasn’t a day that went by where we didn’t arrive home together, raving about what so-and-so had said that day. It would be possible to write an entry on each and every single one of them and what we loved about them, but that would be all together dull reading, and so I will content by saying that they ...
