Nice Facilities- SMOKE FILLED

Reviewed Feb 3, 2013

The bed, western toilet, shower, and sink were all nice and satisfactory. They gave us a nice room, though there was construction out the window at the time, that isn't their fault and if you've been in China long enough, you're used to noise.

The first night was good. The second night, however, we returned to our room and it smelled like someone had a smoking party in our room. It was so bad that I could not breath. I went to the front desk and asked if they could give us another room, because we specifically asked for a non-smoking room, and they simply flat out refused.

Having that much smoke in your room is a health-hazard- it was not just a hint of smoke, it was smoke-filled.

We figured out the source; it was the pipes in the bathroom- the construction is so poorly made that the pipes filter up the smoke from the other smoking rooms in the hotel.

... the next day and then I am warned it is quite disappointing and maybe not quite worth the trip. Plan 1 scrapped- I start seeking something else to do. Then someone at my hostel starts on about the Canton Fair. This I've never heard of so slightly intrigued I tag along for a sneak peak.

will be the Dutch away kit.

In addition to my weekly Sunday tradition, I also had a
match with the school PE teachers. We played the construction workers again,
except this time, I believe it was the boss’s brother team whom we played. We
won this time around with a score of 3:2. I didn’t score, but surprisingly,
Leon decided to join the team. He played goalie and ...

Autumn is now in full swing - trees leaves are changing colour, and we get several days/nights in a row where the temp drops to low-mid 20's, then it goes back up to high 20's-early 30's. the intense heat has gone, as has most of the humidity, so its rather nice. Long may it continue!

2 Months In

Approaching what would be the two month mark in China, and I am at last settled in. Actually, an interesting point raised earlier when asked, "Do you still wake up saying wow I am in China?" The answer is no. When I wake up, I don't say that this is China, rather, I subconsciously think this is home. Not only do I live here, but I am also a functioning member of this society in my new life. Things have turned around more or less, or, in another sense, started to ...

... Cannon Site.

The Five-Ram Sculpture is one of the most famous structures in Guangzhou. It has become the emblem of the city. Legend has it that more than 2,000 years ago, the city was a barren land with people who despite hard work were suffering from famine. One day five immortals, in five-color garments, came riding on five rams, playing their legendary music. The rams held sheaves of rice in their mouths. The immortals left the sheaves of rice for ...
