We had to use agoda here but they often have last minute flash deals and we picked up a nights accommodation in a decent hotel for $50. So, we had this rather long layover in transit in Guangzhou. We could have chosen just to sit around the airport for 12 hours but hey - there's a place to explore we've never been before just waiting for us. I wasn't sure whether they would let us through immigration because you normally have to have a visa already before you get to China but in Australia they gave us an application for a 24 hour visa. ... today.. it is situated in the newer more modern area of Haizhu ..taxi or metro? One walk into the station with it's predominately chinese signage, no english speaking staff and a change of lines required.. I opted for the taxi .. showed the taxi a photo of Canton tower..Chigang Pagoda it is ..and ..it was amazing! Towering above all around it, the parks and gardens in bloom made it quite an oasis in this bustling metropolis.
