We were off about 7.30am to check out the Mega store (like Bunnings, toyshop for boys). Unfortunately, Tony had forgotten that today was Saturday, not Friday and therefore they didn't open until 8.30am! So second choice was to walk around town to check out the shops. Have say that not much …
Early 6.00 start today to leave for the station to catch the TranzAlpine Railway from Cristchurch to Greymouth. The train journey starts at 08.15 and ends around 12.30 having crossed the New Zealand Alps. Then we walk to the Avis office to collect our car for the drive to Franz Joseph for an overnight before we drive to Queenstown.
... has flown by. Will & John were great guides and we're on a high. As we're the last ones off its all to the pub (we didn't suggest it honest.....ok we did). We have a couple of drinks with the guides who are funny and they tell me there's a vacancy, dam me being too old for a working visa. I love it here, think my next skiing destination is found. We head back to the hostel shattered but with a sense of achievement today. All in all today has been one of my most amazing days ...

We stood and marvelled at the glacier; listening to small rockfalls and creaks as the glacier moved imperceptibly slowly towards the sea (it moves around 4cm per day) and then finally made our way back down to the car.
