Saturday 12 March, Greymouth to Franz Joseph
We were off about 7.30am to check out the Mega store (like Bunnings, toyshop for boys). Unfortunately, Tony had forgotten that today was Saturday, not Friday and therefore they didn't open until 8.30am! So second choice was to walk around town to check out the shops. Have say that not much …
Early 6.00 start today to leave for the station to catch the TranzAlpine Railway from Cristchurch to Greymouth. The train journey starts at 08.15 and ends around 12.30 having crossed the New Zealand Alps. Our driver arrived at 7:20am so we were at the train …

We have a couple of drinks with the guides who are funny and they tell me there's a vacancy, dam me being too old for a working visa. I love it here, think my next skiing destination is found. We head back to the hostel shattered but with a sense of achievement today. All in all today has been one of my most amazing days ...
