Today was supposed to be our first long driving day. We headed off early, around 7:30am, and took the I-25 to Fort Collins for a refuelling stop and got some sandwiches at Subway. From there, we took the 287 (which quickly turns into the #14) through the Roosevelt National Forest. This route is definitely more more seeing than the boring Interstate …

We have now left the magnificent scenery of the mountains, and are now driving across the prairie with not much to see. We are going to spend the night in Rawlins. It here we meet a few interesting characters and spend some time conversing with them. Lots of cute little cotton bunnies wandering around the camp ground. Looks like we have a nice night here in Rawlins, as it can be one very windy place.

Not only this, but for the first time since the opening two nights in Canada, it was too hot to even sleep in our sleeping bags. Consequently neither of us slept much and we both woke tired. Unfortunately, in order to stay on the 2317 you had to turn right after 21 ...

... ranch. We reminded ourselves we were glad we weren't traveling in a covered wagon. We finally got to a town, everyone was starving. No Walmart so we found a supermarket and got chicken and salads and mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese. We found a really nice park and ate there. The children played and we had to drag them out! It felt good to play. We decided to stay in the area instead ...

Headed out at 8:30 am. Stopped for fuel at Loves. Spent $123.48 on diesel. It's a long drive across the rolling prairies. We saw cattle on the range and many small silos located all over the open plain. I tried to google them and the best that I could figure out is that they were missle silos - very strange! We stopped at a cool travel visitor center called Little America and had lunch. There's a motel, ...
