I feel very elated that so many of you have visited this blog. I hope it's been informative and fun to travel with me!
The travel bug took over my life when I was stationed in Morocco with the US Air Force in the late fifties. I had the opportunity to visit Madrid, Paris, and London, while stationed there for one year, and when I had the opportunity since then, I've done my share. Have traveled to over 200 countries, all five continents, flew to Mt Everest, dipped my feet in the Dead Sea a couple of times, visited Ushuaia (the southernmost city of the world) a few times, a visit to Hammerfest, the northernmost city in September (2010) and met many new friends. Some have kept in touch after many years. Since travelpod keeps records according to the number of cities visited, and my trips are most often to the number of countries, the recorded number of cities visited and miles traveled will be be grossly understated. Even then, the miles recorded would be equivalent to traveling around the world over 25 times.
I now have plans for 2014: Jan to Hawaii (blog completed), Feb to Cuba & Mexico, April to Cambodia and Vietnam with AMA Waterways, and in late November an Oceania cruise in the Caribbean.
NOV 2013 I completed an AMA Waterway's cruise from Budapest to Prague. It was the best quality in every way.
SEP 2013 Was 11-days in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick. My blog on this trip is now posted.
MAY 2013 The trip to Portugal for a cruise on the Douro River was revised because of heavy rains, and our departure from Porto kept our boat docked for five out of the seven days we were supposed to cruise. However AMA Waterways did a yeoman's job busing us to several destinations in Northern Portugal, to visit wineries, a grand dinner at the monastery transformed into a very nice hotel by the river, and enjoying their port wines. The great, great, grandson of the founder of Sandeman's Winery in 1790, George Sandeman, was aboard our boat, and he provided us with some lectures about port wines. We learned about port wines, and visited many wineries. We were served bottomless glasses of wine during lunch and dinner. On the last night on the boat, the owner of AMA Waterways apologized to us for not being able to do the cruise, and gave all of us a 100% credit towards a future cruise.
I have posted travelogues with pictures on able2know.com (as cicerone imposter) before I started posting on travelpod.com (as c.i.222) since February 15, 2010. I have fans from most countries except China, some in the ME, and Africa outside of Tunisia and Egypt. I now have over 34,000 hits on my 100+ travelogues. I like the fact that on travelpod, we can edit our entries at will, and add or delete pictures or comments after publication. The only thing I miss on travelpod are the feed-backs from visitors to my blog.
