On nearly getting robbed in a hostel

It started when Joe told me that some drunk guy just hit his girlfriend in the tv lounge. ****. We go to find Bob, the hostel manager. We head to the lounge and find the door locked. Bob bangs on the door until it opens, and finds the couple (let's call them Felix and Cynthia, since I never got their names) smoking and drinking. He tells them they …

Our journey to Napier was extremely long! That day we had left Gisbourne at 0630 and travelled back to Gisbourne for 1130. Here we had to wait for a connecting bus to take us to Napier. This bus wasn't leaving until 1615. We didn't get to Napier until 2000 so it was a long day of travel! We had been told that the route we'd done was ridiculous and …

Napier

The bus got into Napier quite late and it was freezing..we even ran into some sleet/hail along the trip! The city is right on the Pacific Ocean and was leveled by a huge earthquake sometime in the 20's or 30's. They rebuilt it and decided to design all the builidngs in an art-deco style. Its a pretty neat place to wander around. All the downtown …

My week in Queenstown was picturesque, but did not live up to the hype. I reckon if I had gone out partying every night, it would have been as wild as people say, but I can't afford hangover days on this short and sweet journey. I did end up going for a walk around the gorgeous Lake Wakatipu with the Remarkables ski fields (still snowless at that …

Napier: what a lovely little place with an interesting history. Devastated by what may well be the 2nd worst earthquake in New Zealand history in 1931, the city was rebuilt. Given the era, many of the buildings are in Art Deco design and, wonderfully, the utilities are underground. More on the town after our walking tour – well pics anyways.< …

Sea front with sea view and balconies for some of the rooms.
    Large kitchen and dining area.
Very relaxed atmosphere and great staff.
Good location to the sea front for Weekend market and also town centre.

Sometimes when Hostelbookers or HostelWorld says they have no room it is not necessarily the truth, they remove the vacancies from these websites. Try phoning instead.

The owner took time to give us some ideas ow what to see, we felt welcomed and had a great nights sleep.

Bathrooms were cramped but clean and the hot water was good for sore muscles
