      Massive hostel but typical YHA

This hostel is huge, modern and has really helpful staff. It's a typical YHA though in the sense that it has zero atmosphere. No one talks to each other and its very quiet.

More like a hotel than a hostel, the staff were mostly friendly and helpful and helpfully located across the road from the supermarket and close to the CBD. Dorms were clean but too hot and badly ventilated. The staff threw out my food in error which was disappointing. OK but there are nicer places in Wellington to stay.

I arrived after a 11 hour bus journey to find in the dorm all the beds looked like they were being slept in and there was no clean bedding! Not good! But as soon as I went to the reception they fixed it right away and apologised too which was nice! There is a cafe here which serves cheap tasty coffee too!

I loved staying at the YHA Wellington. It was super clean which was an amazing bonus! The staff were super friendly and gave ideas for you to do around the city. I was going to head back to Auckland, but liked YHA Wellington, I decried to stay longer!

YHA Wellington City absolutely stands out for the great facilities. Kitchens are well equipped and spacious. The dvd room offers a large beamer and plenty of movies. And the communal spacious are also spacious and relaxing. Rooms itself are okay and clean, yet the bed could have been bigger for 2 persons. Great stay!

We booked this hostel for our stay during Christmas 2010 based on the review in the Lonely Planet. However; the prices increased a lot and so we ended up paying 101 NZD/night for a double room without an ensuite. The room grew incredibly hot during the day when the sun was on the window and at night you could open the window, but it wouldn't cool down if you didn't leave your door open, since no airflow.
It is a huge hostel with plenty of room to accomodate everyone as far as kitchen and dining room space goes, but for the amount of money, I really wonder whether you wouldn't be able to find something more personal and more luxurious for the same or a lesser price?

Our short time in wet river valley was nearly up. It hadn't stopped raining and we were hoping we would have better luck in Wellington, our next destination. Before we left the lodge we had a few hours to kill as a few brave people went out in the morning to do some activities so we all read our books and chilled out. All were back in the early …

Today we did a lot of stuff in Wellington. First
of all we went to the parliament. It was good but we were not allowed to take
photos. Next we went up a hill with a cable car. The view was amazing! Next we
had lunch. The last think was a museum. We spent a long time there. I would say
3 to 4 hours. They had a lot from different …

Wellington Arrived in howling gale and driving rain but had booked myself a nice motel as respite from hostel life. Such bliss to have a room to myself, ensuite and heater allowing all the washing to dry. Another bonus was the tv which allowed me to watch both local rugby and the All Blacks and England. Haven’t missed tv one iota but good to …
