Pretty good but could be better

More like a hotel than a hostel, the staff were mostly friendly and helpful and helpfully located across the road from the supermarket and close to the CBD. Dorms were clean but too hot and badly ventilated. The staff threw out my food in error which was disappointing. OK but there are nicer places in Wellington to stay.

    Massive hostel but typical YHA

This hostel is huge, modern and has really helpful staff. It's a typical YHA though in the sense that it has zero atmosphere. No one talks to each other and its very quiet.

I arrived after a 11 hour bus journey to find in the dorm all the beds looked like they were being slept in and there was no clean bedding! Not good! But as soon as I went to the reception they fixed it right away and apologised too which was nice! There is a cafe here which serves cheap tasty coffee too!

I loved staying at the YHA Wellington. It was super clean which was an amazing bonus! The staff were super friendly and gave ideas for you to do around the city. I was going to head back to Auckland, but liked YHA Wellington, I decried to stay longer!

YHA Wellington City absolutely stands out for the great facilities. Kitchens are well equipped and spacious. The dvd room offers a large beamer and plenty of movies. And the communal spacious are also spacious and relaxing. Rooms itself are okay and clean, yet the bed could have been bigger for 2 persons. Great stay!

I good choice of a place to stay in Wellington. Over traveling NZ and staying in Wellington a few times, this was the best hostel I had stayed at in the city. Beds were comfy, staff were friendly. Price was good. Overall nice stay

OK, but could probably find better for less

We booked this hostel for our stay during Christmas 2010 based on the review in the Lonely Planet. However; the prices increased a lot and so we ended up paying 101 NZD/night for a double room without an ensuite. The room grew incredibly hot during the day when the sun was on the window and at night you could open the window, but it wouldn't cool down if you didn't leave your door open, since no airflow.
It is a huge hostel with plenty of room to accomodate everyone as far as kitchen and dining room space goes, but for the amount of money, I really wonder whether you wouldn't be able to find something more personal and more luxurious for the same or a lesser price?

Our short time in Kaikoura was up. Although the disappointment from not getting a chance to see some whales had not gone, we still really enjoyed this small, seaside, picturesque town. We were collected first as we stayed in another hostel to those on the bus. After doing the rounds of picking up everyone, we soon left the gorgeous weather behind …

Today we did a lot of stuff in Wellington. First stop was at the parliament. It is a very impressing building but we were not allowed to take

Today we had to take an early plane. So we got up at 6am. We took a flight from Wellington to Auckland. On the plane I got a nice seat next to the window J. We drove a long log time by bus, passed the area where Murray once lived when he was a small boy. We ended up at a very nice new hotel. Next to hotel there was a crystal clear river so we …
