Bowraville - a lovely village

Just 11km west of Macksville on the Pacific Hwy is this great village. Two wonderful museums, with the Folk museum the best I have seen in a long time. The theatre has been renovated and is heritage listed and the Belgium chocolate shop is Yum! The Post Office also ...

Surfing Lessons

... cool instructor, who taught us about rips, currents, waves, etc but most importantly how to look cool with your board. I obviously didn't need this extra tip.

After slipping into our wetsuits (definitely looking cool), we grabbed our boards, and headed off towards the sea. In the rain! And it was bloody freezing!

We learned how to stand up on the sand, before heading to the water. Was actually warmer in the water, and after paddling around for ages not having ...

I Can Tell That We Are Goon Be Friends

... around Newcastle in the day and then at night we all drank at the hostel before heading into Newcastle for Wednesday night student night! This wasn't anything compared to a student night back home though! On Thursday I headed to Port Macquarie in the morning with Vincent, and had a wander around the place in the day. In the evening Louise, Scott and Bo turned up (due to the 2 guys being kicked out of the Newcastle hostel!). Next day me and Louise headed ...

Breakdown!

... covers me here and then sat in the pishing rain for 3 hours till he found us. We eventually had to limp the car up the road a bit to find a sign to help with our location. Still, he found us and then noticed that the alternator pulley was not the same type as the other pulleys and no bloody wonder the belt snapped! So, there was no way we were getting to Coffs that night. He towed us into Macksville (should be Hicksville) and we spent the night in the ...

... much fun. Alan Fletcher (Karl) is so nice & we all love him now. Although we do think the quiz was fixed......but we'll win next time!!!! Then the next day (24th) we all went to Macksville to see Mark (Melody etc's brother) & had a nice 6 hours drive to get there ...

We have arrived

... park looks tempting and it is not long before we have wet our lines seeking bream for breakfast...alas the bream prove to be a little too elusive on this first attempt. The smell of the BBQ brings us back to camp ready to savour the snags and onions that make up our staple holiday diet. After washing down the BBQ goodies with a few cold ales, the entire company is quickly into bed and fast asleep dreaming of the adventures yet to unfold in this wonderful coastal area of NSW.

Sydney to Ballina

... up so we had not seen what it was like. During our first night it rained and it makes quite a different sound of the roof and the bed end flies- it actually sounds like an animal (i.e. possum) is "weeing" on the roof but there is no trees overhanging our van - it will take while to get use to it. Coffs Harbour

We decided to take the Greyhound bus up the east coast, as we didn't fancy driving the huge distances between places. After a 10 hour bus journey we are now in Coffs Harbour, staying at 'Aussitel Backpackers'. The hostel has good facilities & everyone is really friendly & helpful. The room is quite basic & has cockroaches! Unfortunately it is still raining! Which is a shame because ...

Macksville

... I was having great fun anyway! Ed didn't manage to do too much today due to his lack of vision but he probably stood up more than me! We were taught how to turn on our boards today and if I ever managed it then it was more luck than judgement! That night we all stayed in a hostel and it was supposed to be a bit of a quieter night so we all watched the surfing film 'Point Break'.

All Whole Day of Surf Camp

... dinner the night before that we were looking forward to breakfast. So we got up, brushed our teeth, put our swimsuits on and were ready to go! For breakfast we just had toast and cereal...which was great for me because I'm not really a fan of breakfast food. At around 8:30am we headed down to the beach. It was actually quite a trek. Once we made it down to the beach it was another mile to the spot where were actually going to surf. Then we were ...
