Lava, lava, why do you push?

A fine line between pleasure and pain ...

What a pleasure it has been travelling around and seeing the amazing sights of this country. What a pain it is to find a unique place that is so focussed around making money. Look, I am happy to be challenged on this, cos it was a grumpy day when we arrived so I felt a bit negative about EVERYTHING …

8am went for a run to Pioneer Hut - very pretty location on a small river. Tour to the Tubes started at 10.30am with a tour of the camp ground. Our guide was the same guy form the campfire last night - he was no better at this than reading Aussie poetry. He was very bad - he didn't know anything. At his introduction, all the tourists wandered off …

We left Mission Beach and headed north thru Innisfail which was flattened by Cyclone Larry back in 2008, that was when bananas were ridiculously priced and as scarce as hens teeth. We continued on thru Milla Milla and Ravenshoe before turning westward onto the Savannah Way. On the way to Undara lava tubes we stopped at the Innot Hot Springs …

At Undara Volcanic National Park there were lots of volcanoes and we climbed one of them and at the top was a crater but the volcanoes are hills now. On Thursday we went on a tour to one of the largest lava tubes in the world. It runs for up to 160km. On our way to Atherton we saw Millstream Falls, which are the widest span single falls in …

Lovely caravan park although very confusing set out. Bush setting, wildlife. Lovely clean amenities (altho if you must have shower curtains, why use white ones? A bit of bleach, people!)

This was an amazing place with friendly and helpful staff. Despite being there during the off season, we were pleasantly surprised by the options available to us. Highly recommend this experience.

The camp as very nice, with clean amenities. Very busy, had to have unpowered as no powered sites available. Dusty, but it was bush camping. $12.00/head forunpowered.

    A must see!

The park abounds in natural wildlife, has a range of accommodation styles (we were caravanning) , great bar and bistro, information centre, wellmarkedwalks and overall excellent facilities. The price at first seemed a little high compared to other parks but the experience was unique and well worth every cent!! We did the Arhway tour at $52 for two hours, our guide Bram was exceptional and his obvious love and passion for the country and its features helped make this an informative, unique and quite frankly almost overwhelming experience. The cost was the best value for money of the trip so far though it is hard to appreciate that till after the event. It was like stepping into another dimension somewhere between Tolkien's Middle Earth and The Land Time Forgot! Don't miss it ifyouhave a chance to got here!
