A few thousand mossie bites and a close call with two Cobras and we came away unscathed from the Amazon having loved the experience. We met some great people, had luxury accommodation and ate like Amazonian gods all whilst enjoying the beautiful surroundings and seeing some interesting wildlife. Posada Uacari is a floating eco-lodge in the Mamiraua reserve in the Amazon. Reached by boat an hour and a half from the town of Tefe it's in a beautiful setting. On our arrival the trees were filled ...

Sorry for the title, but this is the best place I have ever been. This is not a normal amazon logde, this is a place which only allows few people per week. To reach this place we had to take a plane to Tefé (in the middle of the Amazon) and from there 1.30 h boat.
The natural reserve has still comunities and they still can do the activities like fishing or agriculture in a susteinble way.
We did day hikking with visit to the comunities (they are not indigenas simply small villages ...
Bom Dia! We have just arrived back from our week and a half long trip to the Amazon rainforest. Actually, we learned that the proper Portuguese term for it is varzea, meaning flooded forest. The adventure began at the Port of Manaus where we were to board the so-called fast boat to Tefe. I was afraid that we wouldn´t have food for the 13 hour journey (and G was probably afraid of having to deal with a low-blood-sugar Jama) so we frantically searched for food at the port. The first problem was...
... so since we had made the boat, what did it matter if no one else did. Our confusion ended two minutes later when we pulled up to another dock, this one filled with hundreds of
people waiting to jump on board or trying to sell some last minute goods. Even before the boat was fully parallel to the dock, people were lunging over the lower deck rails, then running to the mid-deck to secure a good hammock position. We had already secured pole ...

... the river to cool off, after, and then we headed out, to stay at a local house that was situated on the river bank. The trip out of the jungle was just as interesting as the one in, we saw some more macaws, and a zillion other cool things. I spent the whole time trying not to **** my pants. There are tons of massive ants nests in the trees, they're huge, black nests. Anyway, I was pretty messed up on this night, so I don't remember a whole lot. We ate dinner with some ...
Manaus, State of Amazonas, Brazil ryanflemington... and general helper) -- Sebastian. There was a pair from England; a fellow from Italy; a couple from Columbia and Costa Rica; and lastly a leaf-loving (including those smoked) Canadian. We left my taxi, boat, taxi and -- you guessed it -- boat again to reach our first night´s 5-star accommodation in the Pousado do Lontra. Our room was furnished with two lovely mattresses (even with frames) with mosquito nets and our not-so-consistent rotating fan.

... to have one, but in contrast to those in surf towns are all painted white! First we had to cross the river for another land transfer. We passed the "Meeting of the Waters" where the Rio Negro and the Rio Solimones flow side by side and do not meet. Here we saw our first freshwater dolphins, as they like this area because fish school between the two rivers. Into another Volksie and past a lot of deforested areas (farms etc) to the boat which took us to the lodge. This trip ...
Juma Lake, State of Amazonas, Brazil kingsandemsThe previous Monday I was on my way to Porto Velho, Brazil, but in my Lonely Planet guidebook said there's a boat departing to Manaus up Río Madeira every Tueday and Friday at 18:00. Once in Porto Velho, I realized that info was incorrect, so I booked my trip on a boat leaving at 11:00 the morning after, Wednesday. I bought my ticket with Agencia Amazonia, which is the first one you reach when going down to the port in Porto Velho. They guy selling the tickets told me the price ...
