Can we please move in?

We are travelling down a bumpy, winding road. To our left and right dense green bush creates a tunnel for us to drive through. Bertha slowly crawls over the uneven surface towards our destination. We have heard plenty about Tiwi Beach, both positive and not, and are now excitedly waiting for our first glimpse of this beach campsite.

Wow. WOW. WOW!!!!

Ahead of us, down a small grassy hill, a white coral beach stretches for kilometres each way. The ocean glimmers between the many ...

Mount Kenya, Tiwi Beach, Lamu

........well Mount Kenya. Hungover from the night before we had a 4 hr journey at the back of a 7 seater taxi that was just about held together. I was crouched down in the back as I was too tall and would keep banging my head otherwise, a feat I have become very good at over the last while - good job I'm so thick skulled. Excuses and a bit about where I am

... by the natural rainforest, its towering trees have grown through walls with massive roots and vines weaving their way where once there were windows, chimneys and streets. Perhaps it was just a decline in trading or invaders from another country that caused the demise of this once busy trading town; it is not certain. However, it is certain that today the ruins and forest are home to multitudes of indigenous animal, bird and plant life many of whom I've photod ...

Where did the girl go next?

... every year - the average mortality age of an African is 38 in the UK its 78!! They die at an age that we are just getting comfortable. It doesn't take too much to work out it's pretty bad over here; once you get off your sun lounger at one of the several 5* Resorts and walk half a mile down the road - it runs over you with the power of a freight train. Maybe I did come here to exploit the corruption?? Anyway in four days my priorities are ...

We had a 4 wheel drive bus to ourselves with just the driver and a guide. Much better than being cramped with 10 other tourists which we had heard was common. The first night in Amboseli we stayed in a lodge at the foot of Kilimanjiro The second night at Tsavo East we camped. The tent had a  four poster bed with flushing ...
