We hired a car to get around and drove up to Cape Breton island and the Cabot Trail in the Highlands. It was a long drive but beautiful with the autumn leaves and colours. Especially the more mountains came up the more beautiful it became. The tour guide from Cape Breton just mentioned how amazing this place must be ...

Cheticamp french bakery....

At the end of our hike in the park, we stopped at a great little French bakery in Cheticamp Village, just outside the park, for a little indulgance. The coconut cream pie was the best I've ever had and Kim said his carrott cake was the best he's ever had too! This little bakery came highly recommended and now we know why. YUMMM! And bought a fresh, hot loaf of pumpernickle for the road - bet it's gone before we're off Cape Breton Island.

Since Duke needed a haircut we spent Wednesday morning getting paperwork organized, etc until we could pick him up. Then we drove from Halifax up the interstate to the north shore and on across the causeway to Cape Breton. Cape Breton is quite rainy, but thankfully our campsite had a shelter where we spent the evening around a wood stove. I accidentally overheated my thermarest while trying to dry it out. Now there is a giant bubble on it. Oops.
