We got on the road early as we knew it was a big travelling day. Danny was expecting a few stoppages as the police are often out and about doing vehicle checks during the Christmas time. We did only get stopped once. The road was good once again and we seemed to move along at a good pace. There was a mixture of rich mining towns and shanty towns, and everything between, on the way up. We stopped at Zeerust to grab something for lunch. We have just been getting the sandwiches from the ...

We might have interrupted a bit of courtship because the male is in no hurry to leave the female and take off into the bush, so we hang around and take pictures. As the sun begins to set and we make our way back to the warmth of The Bush House, we spot a kudu then an implausibility of wildebeest then a dazzle of zebra. In the resort, we were served exceptionally well. Although we cringe at the thought of being served, the staff had a very discreet approach. Among these members, Constance, our butler, took good care of us, particularly our two boys. We are very pleased with our stay at Madikwe and have ended our safari experience with a bang.

These safaris have been a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

... the size of a nest.

Paul then spotted some white rhinos. There were two of them and they were close by. They had not seen us – their eyesight is not very good, but their hearing is. Paul frequently checked the direction of the wind by picking up grass and dropping it to see which way it falls. He then led us closer to them. It was very exciting. We quietly and slowly walked closer to them. We could hear them eating. We were so close to them and they had no ...

... they were sniffing the air. The largest elephant continued to walk towards us and stopped at the vehicle- it was a little bit too close for comfort. We couldn't do anything except for sit and wait for him to walk away. Finally he left and followed the other 3 elephants into the bush. We continued to the gate and on the way back we saw two white rhinos. The rhinos were not feeling friendly and briskly walked away. Another fantastic drive through the ...
