    Last Day on the Hill

Today it was the Giant Slalom. Two runs several hours apart with the lowest total time the winner. As it was yesterday skiers only have a course inspection several hours before. The day was not too cold and the course was once again in perfect condition. You really must congratulate the organisers as the course has been immaculately prepared for all these races. There has only been praise from the skiers as well. The smooth running over the last ...

    It's Super G Time!

Back to do it all again! Men's Super G on the difficult Birds of Prey Course at Beaver Creek.

Super G is like downhill but with a few more gates that the skier has to pass through. Unlike downhill though they do not get any training runs on the actual course only a course inspection an hour or so before the start time. This adds to the challenge for the skier and excitement for the spectators as sometimes it all goes horribly ...

We have travelled a long way to see this Blue Ribbon event on the World Cup Alpine Skiing Calendar. It has been much anticipated in our household for some months. Knowing that this is the final hit out for the athletes on the Birds of Prey course before the 2015 World Championships we knew the world's best would be here and we certainly have not been disappointed.

Once again a cloudy overcast day with a light dusting of early morning snow ...

    Wed 3 December
After marvellous sunny weather for our trip so far the last two days we have had overcast skies. Not quite the bluebird days we were hoping for but still high enough cloud that we could see the spectacular view from the top of Beaver Creek Mountain (3488m high). It was time to unpack the ski bags and try out our new skis.

Stephen headed up the hill in the morning to find his way around and check out the terrain. Me being the cautious one ...

    Aspen to Beaver Creek, Colorado

It was farewell to the lovely town of Aspen today and time to move on to our next stop, Beaver Creek. We hired a car for the two hour drive as we wanted to take our time to see some of the amazing scenery of the Glenwood Canyon.

Glenwood Canyon is a rugged scenic 20km stretch of highway on the Colorado River. Its canyon walls climb nearly 400m on both sides. The Interstate 70 highway follows the river as it snakes its way through the Canyon. ...
