    This was a day off before going offshore, so I had planned to go to downtown New Orleans and visit the Aquarium and the IMAX Cinema but I wanted to just use the local bus. It worked out pretty well but was tricky the first time.     ... Alabama. It wiped out a whole small town just outside Birmingham call McDonald Chapel. It had approximately 100 homes there before the storm hit and only about three standing when it left. We also visited another site called Pratt City that had around 1400 homes destroyed.     ... Lutheran Church in Maple Grove, Minnesota. The curious thing for both groups was that it was actually cooler down here than back at their homes in Wisc and Minn. Only in the 80's and nice breeze compared with 100 plus back home all week. The majority of the group had been down to work with us in Biloxi and Texas. There was one new guy, Gary, who is a Vietnam vet and he drove his Harley down from Minn, half of the way was through rain. Tough guy. ...

    ... are working with the VBS and the other half are going out everyday to the site to help us build and finish our last two homes here. Construction wise, the home for the Stuflets on Orangewood should be substantially complete this week. The electrican is installing the last of the light fixtures, the volunteers are installing the gate at the lift, doing final paint touch up and installing all of the bathroom accessories, towel bars, mirrors, ets. ...

Baptist, that their leaders (Miss Rossylyn, Miss Star, Duane and Lacey and others) did a great job corralling and guiding and mentoring the group as needed and we accomplished alot this week at four different sites. The majority of the kids under 16 worked all week at a Rescue Farm for horses in Belle Chasse, La. near here. They shoveled you-know-what and cleaned out stalls for the horses.
