Sasan Gir National Park, Gujarat, India theholidaymaker... park, which was nice. We heard that the animals from the Park often wander onto the Lodge's grounds. The night watchman brought a strong floodlight with him to sweep it over the grounds. There was nothing there at the time, but he promised that he saw something he'd come get us. He never came, so we guess nothing wandered onto the land. We drank coconut milk out of the coconut. Sadly, it wasn't chilled. Refreshing nonetheless.
Sasan Gir National Park, Gujarat, India stuckinindia... surprised by how dirty the temples have been. You'd think with so many worshippers there would be many faithful wanting to keep their place of worship clean. We also went by Porbander today; it is where Mahatma Gandhi was born. Again, the heat and crush of people dissuaded us from any sightseeing there. We went to an ATM and called it good. Added to our funny signs collection ...
Sasan Gir National Park, Gujarat, India stuckinindiaTager Safari Following on from a sun soaked week in Diu, we hit the road once more, making a bee-line for a Hill Station at Mt Abu on the Gujarat-Rajasthan Border. We were counting the months, then the weeks, but its now only a matter of days before we exit India, for an inevitably more sedate place, any-place! We will be working our way as far north as possible over the next 2 days, before taking a train (with) bikes back ...
Sasan Gir, India chaymus... with them, in case they needed to move small insects out of harm's way--non-violence was truly practiced in its most devout form. Bells reverberated between the chanting and singing. "We are here to worship God," said a pilgrim from New Jersey, a Gujarati emmigrant. "One God...we all share the same God." To reach the temple, I climbed 3,500 steps up Shatrunjaya Hill under a bright sun. Sweating men carried pilgrims ...
Palitana, Gujarat, India lraleigh... church rooftop overlooking the town. Everyone spends time on the roof terace so starting to meet other travellers. Austrians, Ozzys, Kiwis a Mexican etc. We have hired a moped too which is great. Ben is a bit of a fanny and cant ride it lol. Got drunk for $2 on rum and coke. Going to have a famous BBQ on top of the Church roof with fish d\cooked up by our larger than life landlord.
Diu, India hudsondino... amazing hospitatily in their home receiving breakfast, lunch and dinner calls from the chef and relaxing in the pool. We must say a big thank you to Devesh and family for allowing us this privilege. It was interesting to experiece some Indian life outside the usual tourist spots.
Wankaner, India amyandmark... After our meal we caught an overnight sleeper bus to Diu - yes you read right, a sleeper bus... it's a weird machine, basically a bus with bunk type beds (single and double). Diu, though not like the exotic beaches I've been to before, was a nice place to relax for a while. Building up to New Years the little town seemed to get busier and busier, though it wasn't western tourists that were coming - Indian men! We explored the island on motorbikes ...
Diu, India antandrel... t sure if it was really all a bit bizarre, or if it was just a combination of the altitude, the heat, dehydration and exhaustion setting in. Regardless, it was absolutely gorgeous up there, and after taking time to appreciate the view and taking some photos of a couple other temples on other near-by (or were they...) peaks (lower ones, and therefore NOT to be done, as they involved going DOWN lots of steps into valleys and then UP lots of steps again ...
Junagadh, India mimmik... into most of the forts in Rajasthan), and there is no supervision, so we took a flashlight and went down all these tunnels that were originally escape routes. Some of them were caved in, probably from the big earthquake in 2001, but we were able to go pretty far down three, one of which was inhabited. I always thought that bats had great radar. Not in Diu. Either these bats are uniquely "challenged", or have been taking advantage of the fact that Diu is the only place to buy alcohol in the ...
