... lunch, before starting a walking "tour" of the city, recommended in our Lonely Planet guide. Our walk took us from the harbour, through the city, to the Albert Park (which has a statue of Queen Victoria), to the University's clock tower and old merchant houses, to the Art Gallery, Civic Theatre, Town Hall, and to a small shopping quarter called Kevin's Arcade, a bit like the Victoria Quarter in Leeds, but more scruffy.
