... hanger plates had started to vibrate loose. sorted.. now the exhaust.. good grief one of the supports had sheared clean through. I check with the camp owner (Lisa’s commented that the owner seems a little dysfunctional as he has been working on his car the whole time we have been here and surprise surprise he has a welder in his open plan garage) however we can only weld in the arvo as the electricity supply fluctuates less then and hopefully we can get ...

THE most amazing day!

... we could see that there was blood on them, especially one in particular. As we looked around we spotted the kill, a small zebra, and another lion was guarding it from the vultures. The lions were really pumped up and were panting, they looked very aggressive and not to be messed with! I was glad to see the zebra was already dead but to see a kill was pretty special. We eventually made Lion Plains and after driving for about 30 minutes without seeing anything, it was an oasis ...

Malawi into Zambia

... easy, one stamp, write your name in the book and off you go. Getting into Zambia was a little more difficult, especially for Dave and the car! We had to see the medical man first (why??), then another checked the passports and stamped them - he didn't even mark my very expensive visa! This trip has already used up five pages of my passport! The road in Zambia was fine to begin with and we made good progress, but we soon hit the dirt roads Now its ...

Serious animals!

He Said: A five hour drive from Lilongwe (half of which was on very rough dirt roads) brought us to the village of Mfuwe, Zambia where our safari camp was located just outside the gates of South Luangwa National Park. We are sleeping in large tents but that's about where the term "camp" ends. Each tent has its own bathroom and shower, regular beds with mattresses, electric lighting, and a patio with river views. A cook prepared all our meals that we ate in a thatch roof ...

... were having so much fun. We had a second sighting of buffalo (the first was a very close encounter on foot in the Okavango Delta in Botswana). Now that we were in jeeps, it was a much more relaxing experience, and we enjoyed it without worrying if there were any nearby trees to climb in case the buffalos charged! We also learned ...

Stuck in lion territory

... our face. 10 min and a lot of exertion later and we were once again freed. By this time our time in the park was nearly up so we decided to give up the 4WD fun and find 'em lions. We stopped a local guide who pointed us in the right direction ("...down the left fork, 40m past the cucumber tree, in the middle of the 4 redwood trees ...

... Grab my binos, anti bug stuff and my fleece as it is getting cold, and we are off. The drive comes with a quiz from the driver, to check you are awake and taking interest I assume... the first game we saw were two types of antelope, Puku and Impala... "What are the differences Margot?" is my first (and as it turns out, only) test... managed to rustle up about 4 and apparently scored top marks so wasn't asked again. Lucky there were no more tests as I spent most of the rest of the drive ...

Christmas Eve Safari

... tables eating, under the lanterns, the lanterns attracted millions of bugs. We tried to eat our onion soup ignoring the bugs that would fall in the soup, or swim around in the soup, and it was a little unnerving. And I'm certain I had a few crunches that were not intended to be part of the soup. Oh well. We decided to turn the lantern off, and that helped a little bit, but the bugs were still everywhere. Andy (the German guy) and ...

other beautiful animals as you can see in the Photos

One thing that was annoying were the flies that stung right through my
pants and blouse. More itchy bites to deal with!
