... weather to do it in. Back out on Hwy. 2 south for an hour or so, we stopped in a little one-street town called Waipawa for lunch. Even a little town like this had a couple of upmarket cafes and some antique shops. Our cafe had it's own little garden growing herbs and lemons. These little towns vary from the seemingly affluent like Waipawa to some that have little more than a 'Hotel' (fancy name for a traditional pub) and are full of empty shops. One town just seemed to consist of ...

Wellington, North Island, New Zealand mikebron... the weather holding we took the scenic route back along Oriental Bay passing starfish & tens of Victoria Uni students jogging. Despite its name, the oriental population is much smaller than Auckland.

On reaching downtown we took a mosy around before wandering to the parliament buildings for a free hour long tour. Wellington, North Island, New Zealand tkd_demon... area, and went on an hour long tour of Parliament. I walked around town in the afternoon, buying a copy of Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales, and then went to a pub called Four Kings to play poker for the evening for a $10 buy-in. I made the final table, coming eight out of 36, having played flawlessly until my last hand, when I broke one of my golden rules "don't call someone else's all-in when you don't need to".
Wellington, North Island, New Zealand eddiemetal... a good start also for Isaiah my 2yr old. He loves being at EduCare and being one of the 'old hands' he loves being of help to the new kids and to anyone else for that matter. He misses Cooper his best friend from last year but has made fast friends with Italy Collings, another kid from College. Talei my 10yr old has also had an awesome start to the ...
Upper Hutt, Louisiana, New Zealand faithfulvesselAlrighty, to sastify enquiries of Ms. folsom, I'll give you some details of my current where-abouts. I am now in Punaruku, NZ working at Karibu Creek, which is a farm/hotel/backpacker accomodation/tea garden/ arts and crafts type of place. It's a nice, cozy getaay from the hustle and bustle (compared to U.S. cities, it's a tropical getaway) of Auckland. You can actualy find the website via google, yahoo, or whatever search engine you're afiliated with. The duties ...
Punaruku, North Island, New Zealand bjmart33Abel Tasman Track Day 2 - 9.5km Anchorage to Bark Bay My alarm goes off at 5.30am - low tide in Torrent Bay the next bay on the way up to Bark Bay. It's pitch black inside and out. I switch on the infra red on my head lamp, gather my gear and tiptoe outside. The Americans are already ahead of me and a Swedish couple behind. We're all on the beach with headlights and flashlights - there's not a flicker of dawn on the horizon as we tramp along the beach searching for the orange ...
Abel Tasman Track, North Island, New Zealand trekkers2On the drive from Oamaru to Dunedin, we planned to make three side trips, the Moeraki Boulders, Penguins and Sea Lions. But we got stuck at the penguins and didn't even make it to the sea lions! The Boulders are natural, carved out of the cliffs by the sea. It must be a harder rock that the sea does not breakdown. We had a lot of fun, and got a little wet at this site. Then we drove down to the penguins. This was a beach that was difficult ...
Moeraki, South Island, New Zealand andreat... And we saw some other fun animals all in wide enclosurers, many of them without fences (moat barriers). Next we went up the gondola that looked out over the harbor and the city and over to the Pacific. Elizabeth and David took us to dinner up there and I balked at the prices, but they insisted. I had green lipped mussels and Aaron had lamb shank (I really can't beleive it cost $25 for a lamb shank!) but it was good food. Our last event of ...
