... learned that these trees live for thousands of years, can measure around 20 feet in diameter, but only have roots four feet deep. Being the USA, they have named them. We saw the Old Grizzly (the biggest of them all), the clothes peg, the tunnel tree, the bachelor and three graces, the faithful couple, to name just a few. Next day we drove up to Sentinal Dome with the intention of hiking the 3 mile trail. Sadly, it was not to be, for ...

So we did! And what a stupid decision that was. We drove deep into the woods. Then deeper. Then a little deeper. This is no dunnottar woods mind. We won't just pop out the other side. ... from last years fires and they were harvesting the usable trees and stacking the unusable. Hetch Hetchy (or the area near the dam) looked like they had some fire damage too but this area is a little more rugged with only small scrubby trees. You could walk across the dam and they had informational placards along the way with a tunnel that took you to the trails that ran along the back side. The reservoir is 8 miles long but that includes part that is not seen which is ...

Last night we parked up in the Walmart car park. It was quite safe but rather noisy. We learned how to use the furnace (because it is really cold) and all the other appliances. We have a fridge, microwave, shower and toilet but you have to turn on the water pump to use the loo. You also have to turn on the generator to use the water pump. Peeing is a noisy business!

      Today we made ...
