We had collected our hire car and driven a section of Highway 1 from San Fran to Santa Cruz before heading inland. The coastal section was spectacular, but would have been more magnificent had the sun been shining. As it was, it was a bit of a gray day. The surfers sure looked cold in the crashing waves. Along the way, we saw many crops growing in the fields, but I was most enthralled by the extensive orchards of pistachios. I would ...

which is about 30 miles outside the south gate of Yosemite. Once again, it was very narrow roads ...

... all the fires. Tidbit of info as it takes us about 1 hours to get from Wowona to the valley but back in the late 1800's-1900 it took 8 hours to travel along with changing the 4 horse stage 4 times.

We decided to make the trip to Hetch Hetchy Valley which is in the northern section and it was the section that John Muir loved and fought against the dam that is there (water in reservoir goes to San Francisco). In order to get there we had to go partway thru the ...

... have had 6lanes going each way. So far we haven't encountered too much traffic.

Finding our way around has been an experience too. The GPS tells us to turn at the last possible moment. I have taken to reading it and constantly scouring the signs to make sure we don' t miss the turn offs. That bit has been ok but finding our way around town has been a little tricky. We have circled a couple ...
