Buses, Beautiful places, and a Bit of Bad luck

... less blunt appeal. That way, thieves who have a change of heart can upload people´s photos to a main site and allow you to download them. We just want the photos, the memories back dude, c´mon. I´ll give you a reward....sent by Paypal, to your bank account. Now just give me your routing number...

If either of these 2 ideas come to fruition and make anyone any money, I want a cut, because I don´t have a job right now. Thanks. Mike.

Cotopaxi aka The Beast

... for another hot chocolatemilk. :-) Even when we rested in the refugio, we were out of breath..but the torture was worth it, as the view was amazing!

After lunch, we went down until 4500m and got a mountainbike to ride down the hill for 14km until 3600m. The road was really bumpy, steep and sometimes slippery, but it was fun :-). After that adventure, we went back to Quito to have diner with some people of the jungle tour...

Volunteering in Ecuador, 2. contribution

... include oneself in the field. With the objectivation one would be able to reflect upon one’s motivations and reasons for f. ex. volunteering abroad. This is but one aspect of the introspection I wish to include in my study, the other aspect is building awareness about what feelings arise while participating. I’d like to exemplify this with the following introspective reflection about my work in the garden:

Up until recently I have worked alone in the garden ...

We also climbed one of these which was even higher and had an even better view of the old town – still with dodgy ladders but at least they were inside the tower this time. The last floor wasn’t cement though – it was steel bars covered loosely with large chicken wire. No such thing as OH & S in Ecuador I guess!

Afterwards we walked back to Plaza Grande and got a snack of empanadas with cheese and chicken which were yummy but also very greasy – ...

A few days late, but here´s my first entry abroad!

... turned on the light to see what had happened. Seeing me sprawled out on the floor, she jumped out of bed and checked to see if I was conscious. It took me a few moments to come to, and when I did, I asked her if she had any water. It didn´t occur to me earlier in the night that I should grab a bottle of water just in case. Unlike home, I can´t just run to the faucet and grab a drink if needed. Unfortunately, Esther only had a half-full ...

Quito a bad reputation

... they can possibly sell that much, there are not enough tourists around.
We have a good wander around and then head back to the hostel and load the bikes.
Heading out of Otavalo on the Pan American highway we come across the animal market which is across the highway from the town. Lots of pigs on leads!
It's back to mountain roads up and down following the ...

New Town and unexpected bus trip

... about for the requisite coinage, she then proceeded to let Cynthia through for free, jammed me in the barrier and insisted I pay $0.60, then let Andy through for free!. ****. We got to the bus, and after having our bags put in the hold, I was subjected to the most hands-on body search I´ve every had by a rather attractive woman - I´d be lying if I said she didn´t definitely grab my cock. Andy was creasing up when I boarded the bus because she did exactly the same to him!

12 more days of fun, sleep, work, and repeat

... only 4 pestle and mortars that looked like he had carved them himself. I really wanted to get one but was not going to lug that for months!
Everywhere people are generally very small and most of the tour group were quite tall! As we drove on I saw quite a few people picking up rubbish and Julia told us the Government is paying people to do this in an effort to clean up the place. Unfortunately its similar to Asia in that people are used to throwing rubbish by the roadside but have not ...

Me, myself and the Old City

... the guard then shouted for no photographs to be taken. So I tried to take pictures without the guard looking, sneaking a picture shot here and there. But he must have seen me as when I looked again, his finger was waving at me and sternly said "no fotos".

After spending about ten minutes admiring the beauty of inside the La Compania church, we were all told to leave as they wanted to close the door. I walked to the Plaza Grande which was ...
