... an amazing construction laying undiscovered beneath the city for so long. Lunch was at a local restaurant where we had traditional Turkish meatballs, or Kofta. I also had Gulab Jamun, which are syrup dumplings. The festival of tulips was happening in the city and a huge Turkish Carpet made from tulips was planted in the middle of a park area. It is the worlds largest. We then ventured up to the ...

They were two young guys who were there between semesters at school. They are also planning to go to Chicago soon, so they told us about Turkey and we told them about NY and Chi.

... oldest building in Istanbul, located on the Topkapi Palace grounds - but there was nothing that could be done about it now. We taxied back to the hotel (which took an hour even in the "light" version of traffic) and checked in, then wandered away from Sultanahmet to find an affordable restaurant.

After dinner we went back to the hotel to rest, since the previous two days had been so travel-intensive. It was nice to be staying in one spot for a while!
