... Quito is about 2 1/2 million people squashed into a snake-like meandering down a narrow valley and up the sides of the mountains anywhere they can gain a foothold.

... metres we dropped. The snow had been falling for no more than half an hour but it had covered the mountain's slopes to at least two or three hundred metres below the carpark. The drive back saw us stopping at a lake and a very sparse museum on Cotopaxi National Park, but the standout was definitely Cotopaxi itself.

Like so many mountains before, it has inspired awe, and lodged a desire to return somewhere deep within my mind.
