... tros, they lied and said there were none on fridays because it was market day (BS...the station was within sight). after that, things went well---and i think all the frustration there just intensified how enjoyable the green turtle lodge really was.

We got there and the first thing we saw was a lunch menu (since the reception desk doubles as the bar). On the menu: salads (multiple types--bean salad, fruit salad, green salad--not made with cabbage!!!), sandwiches (some ...
Busua, Ghana ellebee88... exam results to arrive before he finishes his studies. He was a very friendly guy that clearly enjoys his wide variety of interactions with foreigners. On Saturday morning he led Else and I on a hike to Cape Three Points which is the southern most part of Ghana. There is a historical lighthouse at one of the capes that we hiked to. As we hiked the lush tropical lined road we had some very interesting conversations. Emmanuel asked us many questions about Arnold Swartzenager ...
Akwidaa, Ghana, Ghana sherrypace
Akawaba from the Cape Coast!

I have been in Ghana for one week now and have already experienced enough to fill at least two entries here so I will attempt to be brief.

We have made our home base at my friend Diana's Mom’s house a few kilometers outside of Kumasi a village called Ampabame the last week. Rosina (Diana’s Mom) is such a gracious host and has a beautiful home with plenty of space for all of us and of course a large number ...
Sekondi-Takoradi, Western, Ghana sherrypace... the idea of doing something that can be useful for the world I live in... although in such a small manner. I feel excited and looking forward to be in the 'black Africa' first time ever. I have to admit I'm a little bit worried for all illnesses I've heard about, but I'm sure everything will be fine and I'll be back stronger than ever. Yes! A night of rest and tomorrow I'll be able to arrange everything!
Takoradi, Ghana theprimerose... might just be that Oliver and I will have to send out Brit passports back to England in the hope of getting them there. Advantage of having two passports. Stopped off at a little town for cook group shopping. Oliver and I stayed on the truck. Some cook groups have decided to change. I'm sticking with mine, as is Oliver. 12.13 and Mum thinks we may have driven past Kakume some 2 hours earlier so we're instead heading ...
Kumasi, Ghana oliveramber... long before our meeting just as Ansah finished his shift. Earlier I had asked Ansah (also super awesome) if he could help us build a bonfire for tonight. We actually didn't have to lift a finger because when Moses got there Ansah set him to work right away and he did an awesome job of stacking the wood to burn. Then Ansah helped him top it off, bringing a wheelbarrow of bamboo to the fire pit. How can I leave these amazing people ...
Akwidaa, Ghana travelingdiva... The guide pointed out the different trees in the forest and what the wood was used for. Our guide was a Ghanaian and spoke in English. After each stop when he had finished talking Emmanuel would turn to me and ask if I understood. After the third time I told him I actually speak English too. He seemed to think this was funny so I asked if my English was particularly bad from his point of view. I think he was concerned because when Ghanaians speak quickly I ...
Akwidaa, Ghana travelingdivaToday we painted sign boards for the village entrance. "Welcome to Akwidaa Traditional Area" on the main sign, and then a sign below that listing the ecotours you can do here, including turtle conservation, canoe trips through the mangroves, and rainforest hikes. Once our signs were done we had the rest of the day off to do whatever we wanted so I didn't do ...
Akwidaa, Ghana travelingdivaToday we had our parade in Akwidaa village. For all the reminding we did yesterday it seems to have been pointless. Nobody was prepared! We went to the junior secondary school beforehand to help them make signs for the parade but all we had was sheets of 8.5x11" paper. Still, the kids did a beautiful job making their conservation messages and proudly displayed them for our cameras. We went across the street to the private school. We ...
Akwidaa, Ghana travelingdiva... long after they were finished their meals as we had to leave at 8am today. We weren't too delayed getting started this morning given that there were so many of us and all women (except for the two drivers). We dropped everyone off at the little beach-side village where they would all be volunteering. Tom and I then continued on to Takoradi where I was meeting up with one of the owners of the lodge I was volunteering with. We didn't ...
