          ... the distance but because the roads require a slow speed to manage all the twists and turns, animals and Italian drivers. As for animals, we saw horses, cows, pigs, goats and sheep....all on the roadway! Crazy!

          Safely back at our hotel we enjoyed a warm, calm afternoon by the sea. We played some cards, ate our picnic lunch and read the Sunday Seattle Times online. Dinner at the hotel restaurant tonight. ...

          ... time to head to the market which re-opened at 4:30pm and yes, Italians like Hispanics get an afternoon break where everything closes for a few hours. We found the grocery store with no problem and picked up a few items to enjoy a home cooked meal in our apartment. Tonight we had a chicken pesto penne pasta with green salad, yum. Another lovely day in Italy.

          ... of the mosaics are taken. They are beautiful. There is also a relic of St. John Paul II. Then we went to Monte Sant'Angelo on the bus. It was up a mountain. St. Michael the Archangel appeared to a bishop in a cave there. We went to the cave. When we got back to San Giovanni Rotondo there was a St. Francis parade because it was the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi. There were several thousand people.           ... the hotel in San Giovanni Rotondo. When we got to the hotel we checked in, went to our rooms and unpacked. I did some homework.           After another hearty breakfast we went down to the harbour and took the ferry across to San Nicola island, a 5 minute trip. The island is smaller and is dominated by a large castle and the vegetation is completely different, having no trees - just scrub.
