... the water in my scuba gear I was amazed at the rainforest and just wanted to get into it and explore. So flying KK to Sandakan, head into the jungle for a night, cruise up the Kinabatangan river at dusk, have a night walk in the jungle and early morning boat ride. Then a stopover in a forest lodge just by the Sepilok's Orangatang rehabilitation centre then up early and off to turtle island for a night-watch for turtles laying their eggs.

... to Spain for the Winter,and Manuel is now living now in Cambodia,so we all keep meeting up now and then. We plan on heading down to Singapore,then turning round and heading north once more,following the weather,Christmas on Koh Samui,then up to Laos,Cambodia,and Vietnam,before coming back south again! ... we had been gone, the Camp’s staff had taken the decorations that Dr R and I had brought from England – banners had been strung up, balloons had been blown and an emergency cake had been rustled up (not easy to find on Hari Raya – imagine going cake shopping on Christmas Day). ... lights for us to manouever, helping us with our lines and just trying to comfort us – many had seen what had happened with their own eyes as we were just off the marina breakwater in full view of many boats. A huge thank you to all – Terry, Mike, Urs, John, Jules and everyone else that pitched in.

Many lessons learned for us (again). We will take today to reflect on them and do what every good pilot I’ve ever known does – not make the same mistakes ...
