      ... Alaskan Pipe-line The pipeline was built between 1974 and 1977. It runs for 1284kms and the diameter of the pipes are 122cms. Eleven generators pump the oil along the line. Some of the pipes are above the ground and below the ground. The reason for this is permafrost.
