... This was something that Willem had looked at well over a year ago when he was planning where we should go. Jan took up the reins and I left them to it. I liked the idea of it when we were in Australia but the increasing heat and humidity as we travelled further south and the minor issue with my toes was really putting me off. My apprehension was made worse when I started to get sick at the end of our stay in Drake Bay (food or water, who knows).

Saturday Up for breakfast, rice beans and egg with some watermelon on the side, mmm luxury living! Before we left home i remember thinking i will be covered from head to toe in clothing to avoid bites, and i was yesterday, but everything needed washing and in the morning they werent dry so im left with beach shorts, t- shirt and sandals looking like im in Torremolinos. All sorted and away in a 4x4 for an hours drive along a bumpy track and over a few small rivers to the start of our trail. as soon as we get out a pair of scarlet macaws fly overhead and Roger points out a group of spider monkeys in a tree, not a bad start! The jungle goes right down to the beach and our trail will be in the jungle mainly but also along the beach and thats where we start. we walk to La Leona ranger station, about 3kms away which sits just off ...
... and smelled a large group of wild boars. There were probably 30 or 40 and they were running through the jungle beside us and made this really weird clicking sound. In the middle of the hike we went to the Serena Ranger station where you can stay in tents if you want. There is a grass landing strip for small charter planes to land. We saw crocodiles and a large caiman which is similar to a crocodile. The trip finished and we took the boat back and saw a group ...
