... causing all the bother, Franz kept throwing sand in front of it to keep its attention and get it to move into the right position so he could grab it!
he told us stories of how his grandfather faced down a Lion! how best to keep and find water in the desert, how to keep warm or cool in the desert. Franz was fantastic and definitely made this the best day so far.
We drove north for several hours leaving the beautiful dunes and ...
... could be doing an extra run. So we asked our guy if we could just keep going down instead of watching. He exclaimed with surprise that we could and asked if we exercise a lot. When I looked back at him questioningly he said that people were always grateful for the break and he had never had anyone want to keep pushing through. Most of our group though felt the same and once we headed to the next run they followed. Our third run was really fast and the fourth run ...
Swakupmund, , Namibia claraz8... Smiley” which while funny and quaint at first is starting to wear off. He also wanders off subject and rarely answers a question asked so that I miss most of what he says because I’ve tuned out when it becomes repetitive, which is “pretty much” always. Regardless, I like him as a person and think he’s doing the best he can.
When we arrived to the township we learned we should not take adults’ pictures without ...
... group. When we got there our guide jumped out and began explaining what we were going to do. He was a white man, older but with a young face full of excitement. He was also barefoot although the ground was hard and cracked and cement-like in some areas.
As we set off the wind howled about us sending sand up into our eyes and swirling our hair and clothes. As our guide began telling us about the desert he warned us ...
... on of Kumuka Tours optional activities: a walk through Sossusvlei (Valley where people disappear) with a bushman. I must admit, I was expecting a small African man dressed in tribal skins. Needless to say I was rather surprised when our bushman turned out to be a tanned caucasian man. However he certainly knew his stuff! He tracked a small lizard by finding it's tracks in the sand, located a ...

In the end, help was on its way - we opened the tent to find a crew of people who collapsed the tent with a speed that suggested they had done that same move 10 other times that morning. Some people had been up for 2 hours, unable to sleep, others had their tents literally blown away or collapse on them while we had slept on blissfully.
The joy of earplugs.

We had three nights in this western coastal town and we were in beds which made it even better. Leon and and I decided to upgrade and we had a lovely room. On our first full day we went sandboarding down the dunes. We each had a flat wooden board that we used to go head first down the dunes. We went down 4 different ...
... a multi piece bucket of chicken planted firmly in the middle of the room for easy reach from any bed. Hahahahaaa another reason we chose to upgrade. God I sound old!!
Oliver and I got merry but were in bed just after midnight after walking to the Engin with Suze... who was thoroughly disappointed when we rocked up at a petrol station as she thought we were talking about Indian? No love, just meat pies I'm afraid.
Didn't feel too bad the next day especially compared ...
Namibia was awesome for us. We had a bit of trouble with the truck and so diverted to Windhoek the night before the final game of the 6 nations was on. We jumped off the truck there for a night to watch the game and caught up with the truck again in Swakopmund. No need to say anything about the rugby, only it was awesome. Swakopmund ...
Swakopmund, Namibia hantyandhunnah... They said they hadn't seen that done before!! It was hard work walking back up the dunes, but well worth it for the rush. In the afternoon 5 of us went Quad Biking in the Namib Desert. It's the best I've ever done. Most of us had semi-automatic 250cc which went really well. We did lots of good stuff, including going at maximum power straight up the side of the steep dunes and jumping off the top, so ...
