This time we walk to the local beach, just follow the Main Street out of town and you hit a small national park, there are little beaches and watering holes along the path. There is also a 1.7km hike to do that takes you to the prison ruins but we decided we would do this the next day. It's not as easy to find shade along this ...

So we pull up in São Paulo at 13:00 (we were told 10:00!) and after working out that we needed to get the metro to the cities other bus terminal we went to buy bus tickets to Paraty. We were told there were no tickets available until the next day but already had a hotel booked and paid for that night in Paraty so really wanted to get there. We managed to get a bus to Ubatuba. A small coastal town where they were apparently hourly buses to Paraty... So we got on the 14:30 bus ...

... and all the while the taxi driver was calling a friend of the owner who actually spoke english. He explained that Tavo dropped his phone in the ocean the previous day and so he would come over and wait with us. He came and brought an english friend of his. We sat and soon two other friends of Tavo a brazilian sailor and his german wife arrived and welcomed us. They were all very hippy in nature and pulled out the greens. They explained that in brazil smoking is a very social thing. So ...
