Merdeka!
Aug 30, 2008 (2 photos)

Sometimes it feels like all the things that have come before, even if you didn't know it then, all happened because they were leading up to one moment. That's how I felt at 9:30 tonight when I stepped off the monorail at Bukit Bintang station in downtown Kuala Lumpur, or KL (as all the British people I've met on this trip call it), to find the s...

Finally went up the Petronas Towers!
Jun 26, 2008

Well, after being in KL several times now, I have finally visited the Petronas Towers. And I learned that all this time, I have been mispronouncing Petronas too boot! (It is actually pronounced Petro-nass, not Puh-trone-as.....) Otherwise, Malcolm and I have mostly just wandered about, not really believing that the trip is nearly over. Its hard ...

The Big Durian
May 8, 2008

Well, I have finally seen the Petronas Towers! They are very lovely looking indeed. We have not gone up them yet, as we are saving that for our next time in KL (at the end of our trip). We also have been doing a bit of sightseeing about the city centre area - just walking around mostly. Have managed to hit a few of the shopping malls to either e...

Kuala Lumpur

Made it to K-L, dispite the tight connection in Singapore, where we were misdirected to take the train directly from Terminal 1 to and our luggage would follow. When we got to T2, we were told to go back to T1, pick up our bags, clear customs and immigration and only THEN return to T2 to check in, clear security, and depart Singapore after havin...

My stay in Malaysia, however brief, was a much needed opportunity to take some time all to myself and get some much much much needed spa treatements (this travelling is BRUTAL on your feet! And did I mention it's been well over 2 months since I've gotten my nails done? Shan the last time was with you in Washington! To THINK I've gone this long!)...

The KL twin towers... So many places to visit so little time... so here I am back in Kuala Lumpur..I was scheduled to leave KL to Bangkok on the 24th of September at 10:40am from terminal 2.. HOWEVER as it turns out in the usual mia-style .. (known to be unpredictable and everchanging!!) with the whole military coup and other issues I decided n...

And so we arrived....
Jun 21, 2006 (5 photos)

Our trip had a slightly stressful start as we found ourselves stuck in roadwork traffic on the way to Heathrow, so despite having left oodles of time to catch our plane we ended up having a mad dash through the airport. If that wasn't bad enough, we were too late to get seats next to each other so spent the long flight six rows apart. More runni...

ASIA'S GARDEN CITY AT A GLANCE

TRAVEL LOG: MAY 03, 2006 Pondok Lodge KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA We arrived last night in KL after a bustling 3 days in Singapore. Our journey began when we arrived in LAX. The cesspool of all airports - dirty, chaotic randomness. Although our budget did not allow it, we decided to escape and treat ourselves to a swanky dinner in the city of angels....
