Black water rafting

We drive to the Waitomo caves today for some black water rafting. First stop is the museum where we learn some very interesting geological and historical facts about the caves and the region. The Waiomo caves are famous for their glow-worms, scientifically known as Arachnacampa Luminosa! These insects produce a light (bioluminosa), in their larva stage that they use to attract insects lost in the dark (insects which enter the cave with the waters). When these insects emerge within the cave th...

Day 2 on the slopes

Together with a South Africian couple, Riain and Annal, we drive to the opposite side of the volcano to the ski resort of Turoa. The main reason for this decision is a report that the snow is better on the other side. It turns out to be a good and accurate report with beautiful conditions on the top of the mountain. Similar to yesterday, once we take the ski lifts right to the very top, the snow improves with altitude. Its nice and soft, powdery snow(doesn't hurt when you fall). Excellent con...

We heading down to Taupo but because of the weather our skydiving got cancelled, so we chilled for a while then headed to Tongariro National Park where we stayed in a ski lodge there which was very nice after doing the crossing.

... little ways further on, and we hit it: in the middle of nowhere, innocuously sitting by the side of the road, the sign bearing the Longest Place Name in the World. It's longer than Llanfairpwllgwyngllgogerychwyrndrobwlll lantysiliogogogoch in Wales. I counted 82 letters, but I could be wrong.
