<br>Day one begins in typical Guigon fashion with fog. Lots and lots of fog. For Yellowknife at the end of October this is incredibly unusual. So is the temperature in general: +3! By Noon the fog had not lifted and we began to worry that our flight would not leave. Actually, we were worried our flight would not get here to pick us up. Something about planes not being able to land when they can't see the ground or something. We figured we’d go the airport as planned ...
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada adelleg... towns” in the far north. We also hiked two kilometres into Cameron Falls and have the pictures to prove it.<br><br>After this exploration, we have decided to abandon our big tent and camp on Reid Lake islands to seek out Peninsula Lake which adjoins Reid lake via a small creek. As I sit on my rock perch atop the largest island overlooking Reid Lake with coffee in hand, the world is a glorious place up here. The water is so clear and clean, that even the info and parks ...
Tibbit Lake NWT, Northwest Territories, Canada tombuttleSpent two days exploring Yellowknife from our campground refuge on the hill overlooking the airport and only three kilometres from downtown. This city of twenty thousand supports most of the communities and prospectors in the far north, including our newly named territory of Nunavut. In general, everything is more expensive up here, except for fish and game which everyone seems to get on their own. Of course, water is everywhere and it includes Great Slave ...
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada tombuttleJanuary 12, 2009 *Re-freeze and final thoughts* Back to YK and not sad at this point. Although we did manage to get ourselves onto a lovely Caribbean cruise in the middle of January, it's been good but exhausting. Traveling with sick mini-we's has certainly changed our travel style (which we were more then aware of before we left), but we're still learning that's for sure! So, how did the day go? Again, quite like the rest... here goes! - got to the airport using the ...
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada tll-tinaLiza and I have chosen Africa for our next great adventure. We will visit South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, and Zambia during the month of February - a welcome respite from the frigid temperatures of Yellowknife. Please join us when you can - we look forward to hearing from you along the way.
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada zoe_liza... then we went for brunch. The trip to the airport was mercifully quick. I was anxious to start my new life. I was ready. In the Nanaimo airport I met a guy named Ken who works for the Union of Northern Workers. We had a great chat and it passed the time really well. I learned a lot about some of the jobs in the North and we shared info on teachers, nurses, and union issues. We had a few laughs on the plane and he was ...
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada cindyloohoo... when Bruce cheerily chirps.<br><br>"You know what guys, you can stay here as long as you leave behind good karma."<br><br>"Ummmmmmm, OK, sounds great. By the way, where do you go for food around here?"<br><br>"Oh, you know what, I've got some food in the freezer, I'll come bring it over and we'll eat, don't worry."<br><br>"OK, thanks Bruce."<br><br>So I'm pooping my pants thinking this guy's going to drug us and then torture and kill us, and Keith goes along with him to see where he gets ...
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada starlagurlWe were getting tired and lazy, so we took a cab downtown. We hadn't been to the Pilot's Monument or the Wildcat Cafe yet, so we walked down there again. We climbed up the big rock dedicated to all the bush pilots who opened up the North to development. Very nice view of the harbour and surrounding areas. There was not a lot of room at the WIldcat, so we had to get a table on the patio. Again, there was not much shade anywhere to be found. We ...
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada starlagurl... on such an auspicious day - the highlight of the trip, literally!! However, now the trip has come to an end. We fly back tomorrow. What a whirlwind tour across and around Canada. I'm pleased with the ground we covered, the people we got to spend time with, and the new places we explored. What a perfectly romantic partner to cap this memorable trip with a proposal and a promise of more adventure to come!
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada lolly... that. What was even funnier was the expression on these poor tourists faces when they disembarked the aircraft. I don't know if it was shock or awe or both! Frickin funny stuff. We played it smart and called a cab as soon as we landed so it would be outside by the time our bags arrived. Sure enough, the plan worked like a charm as there was quite a few people waiting for cabs. Sorry, excuse me, pardon me...that's our cab!! When we got home ...
