... S. Embassy might be close enough to sign documents.
So out into the sun and down to the pier. The pier here is quite famous. It is 500 meters long and has had a checkered history. It survived two World Wars and also survived misguided intentions to just pull it all down. Now it is being revived again with a marina scheduled to open next to it in a couple of years. For now, locals and tourists ...
... milk or dark, white chocolate, and on and on. Oh the menu made one drool. My husband got a classic. I went for the white chocolate with raspberries. Deliciously decadent. How do these people manage to go to work each day? Just sit in the café and have one delightful flavor of chocolate after another. Swiss Miss has been relegated to the back pantry, possibly forever.
Sopot, Baltic Coast, Poland carpefeline... just don’t care anymore? Or are we truly sometimes invisible? Is anyone else invisible too? As we get older, do we get more invisible? If this is true, why can’t I be invisible and walk onto airplanes and get free rides? Why can’t I be invisible when I want to be? What does the future look like if we slowly fade away to invisibility and no one sees us at all?
Sopot, Baltic Coast, Poland carpefeline... Party was legalized with ten million members. The rest is history as each communist country toppled one by one. Walensa went on to be the new Poland's first president and would you believe now in his retired life his approval rating is 1%??!! People here evidently see him as some kind of hero turned whackjob.
Fast forward twenty years to now and Princess and Carnival have dumped off what seems like thousands of blue hairs with their husbands in tow and ...
... away from the main railway station, and stretches between the main road of Gdańsk and the river Motława. The most central point of the Old Town is a pedestrian precinct called Długi Targ (literally: 'a long market'). Here you can find a multitude of quite rare houses that surround a statue of Neptune. A few picturesque cobbled streets lead to the river, and should you follow any of them you'll find ...
Gdansk, Baltic Coast, Poland translucent... an awful dining room sporting faded landscapes of Scotland on the wall. Nevertheless, the tasty Tyskia beer gave us some renewed energy before we headed back to check in. Our hotel room was at the end of a mile long corridor with a stunning view of Gdansk Suburbia, we also had a minibar which would almost certainly be given a wide berth (£12 for a shot of Cognac!). Back along the canal, in need of food we found Restaurant Kubicki, apparently Gdansk's oldest restaurant. We ...
Gdansk, Baltic Coast, Poland funkytraveller... commercial port and worked out much better anyway, although it is in a very depressed part of town. It rained most of the night but without the gale force winds so we got some sleep. It was either that, or the
combination of no sleep last night and a bottle of wine with dinner.
Our tour today was supposed to involve a bus tour with various stops and walking, but since it was raining cats and dogs we drove by most of the ...
... of trying to get to Hel. After awhile of reading in the park we went to get some supper at McDonald's. It happens to be the only place near our hotel to get a bite to eat other than the hotel restaurant, which while good gets a little expensive. Trust me, the burgers at McDonald's were far superior to the infamous "Worst Cheese Burger EVER!" in Sopot. After that we went back to our hotel to get ready for another travel day tomorrow.
Gdansk, Baltic Coast, Poland josh.lambden... I say that i've lived in England for 3 years the typical reaction is: 'OOOOhhhhh, so that's why you don't sound like a kiwi - you've lost your accent!' Hmmmmm. I can't really be having that so when i get back to London you kiwis are going to have to retrain me in the art of kiwiana. I need help!!!!! (especially cos i'm slowly picking up some aussie twang - erica, i'm already saying hos-tell like you predicted...) Gdansk ...
Gdansk, Poland herbyso, i went to gdansk by myself. i love traveling by myself. it's such a challenge, and this really was. i don't speak a lick of polish, and most poles don't speak english that well. historically, gdansk is a bilingual city, hence the two names (Gdansk/Danzig, one polish, the other german), but not that many actually speak German that well, which made buying stuff a little interesting, but hey, who cares? it's ...
