Angkoring for a beer
Cambodia is very different to Malaysia, less westernised, less shopping malls and more chaotic so naturally we loved it from the start! We arrived early morning and were greeted by our hotel pickup (love it when you arrive and someone has a sign with your name on), bundled into a tuk tuk and we were off! We loved the tuk tuk ride, in fact we've …
Day 48
We arrive at the bus station in Siem Reap at 6am. The bus station is actually a dusty driveway off of a small street about 5km from the city. Luckily our hotel has arranged a pick up for us. They don't come for about half an hour, during which time we have had to brush off about a dozen tuk tuk drivers, even ones telling us that our driver won't be …
The Floating Village
Another hot day in Cambodia, no air here at all, this is apparently the hottest month of the year..... which explains why I have felt like a lobster in a boiling pot the whole time.
We started our day with an early breakfast and a trip by tuk tuk to the Tonle Sap lake, the famous one where there is a floating village, we started out …
Tantalising Temples
Today we hit the roads, bored of doing nothing and feeling so much better, and what a day it was.
We set out at 9am to go to see Angkor Wat, we were so incredibly impressed, words cannot describe what it is like. We got collared by a guide but that was ok because he really knew his stuff, he also guided us around the quieter parts of the …
Dazing days in the sun
It is sooooo hot here, I dont think I expected it to be this hot, even after our time in Thailand, nothing has prepared me for this. The last 2 days we have both felt rough and have pretty much only gone out to eat and then come back for a shower, this happens at least twice a day.
We have been into some great little places to eat and I …

TravelPod Member ReviewsPalm Garden Lodge Siem Reap
Pretty basic, but cheap accomodation. Not far from the central streets, our major issue was the water heater that kept on breaking. Overall, good value for money.

This is an excellent place to stay, firstly because it is so close to everything, the rooms are a little out dated but they are nice and well presented. The breakfast if eggs how you want it with baguettes. The staff are the absolute best thing about this place, they are so accomadating and helpful, they can arrange trips for very cheap, they are very keen to help. There is a free tuk tuk into town after 6pm but it is only a 5-10 min walk to pub st the central hub anyway. I would go back for sure, this is budget accomadation but great accomadation!! Special thanks to Thea for his friendship and great conversations and to Mr Mao who looks after everything for you.

This place was a bit hard for us to find because when you google the address it will show you about a 15 minute walk north of the old market. For anyone who is going to stay here walk on Tonle Sap/Phnom Krom (what it says it is on my map..) and take a left at the X Bar, then just keep on walking until you see palm villa sign on the left.
Anyway, aside from the hard time we had finding it this place is great! They have great rates- my boyfriend and I are paying $9 for a big room with a king sized bed, very effective ceiling fan, bathroom, fridge, tv and wifi. They offer free tea and coffee 24 hours, they give you free breakfast, and they will take you to the main area in a tuk tuk and pick you back up for free between 6pm and 10pm. Otherwise it only takes 10 minutes to walk over there. Oh yeah, they also have free fish massage!
The people are super nice too, love it.
