      basic, friendly, value for money

Pretty basic, but cheap accomodation. Not far from the central streets, our major issue was the water heater that kept on breaking. Overall, good value for money.

      Excellent place to stay

This is an excellent place to stay, firstly because it is so close to everything, the rooms are a little out dated but they are nice and well presented. The breakfast if eggs how you want it with baguettes. The staff are the absolute best thing about this place, they are so accomadating and helpful, they can arrange trips for very cheap, they are very keen to help. There is a free tuk tuk into town after 6pm but it is only a 5-10 min walk to pub st the central hub anyway. I would go back for sure, this is budget accomadation but great accomadation!! Special thanks to Thea for his friendship and great conversations and to Mr Mao who looks after everything for you.

Great place, also called Palm Garden Villa

This place was a bit hard for us to find because when you google the address it will show you about a 15 minute walk north of the old market. For anyone who is going to stay here walk on Tonle Sap/Phnom Krom (what it says it is on my map..) and take a left at the X Bar, then just keep on walking until you see palm villa sign on the left.
Anyway, aside from the hard time we had finding it this place is great! They have great rates- my boyfriend and I are paying $9 for a big room with a king sized bed, very effective ceiling fan, bathroom, fridge, tv and wifi. They offer free tea and coffee 24 hours, they give you free breakfast, and they will take you to the main area in a tuk tuk and pick you back up for free between 6pm and 10pm. Otherwise it only takes 10 minutes to walk over there. Oh yeah, they also have free fish massage!
The people are super nice too, love it.

Day 182 - Extra day in Siem Reap and £1.50 haircut

This morning decided finally going to get my hair cut...ahhh! I headed to the local hairdresser across the road, armed with a photo on the phone! Thankfully the owner spoke a tiny bit of English and told me it would cost $1 for wash, $1 for cut and $1 for dry/straighten. As I sat in the chair, she shouted something and a man came in the shop and …

Day 181 - Last day in Siem reap

A travel blog entry by scottiebigtrip on Feb 07, 2014

Today was meant to be our last day in Siem Reap, so we sorted some bits and pieces and soaked up the atmosphere one last time. However when we went to book our bus for tomorrow it's full already so we have booked one extra night here.

Day 180 - Angkor Wat at sunrise

Nice early start today our new driver (last one's friend) picked us up at 5.30am and we travelled up to Angkor Wat. It was pretty busy, lots of other people up early to see the sunrise. We got hot drinks from a little Coffee van and the guy was so wonder as his drinks were $2 each and he has a massive queue. We wandered into Angkor Wat …

Today we headed to the little Coffee shop, then we just sat at a pretty restaurant on Pub Street and people watched, and got the blog up to date and Alex finished his cartoon. The manager of the place came over and saw the cartoon and was blown away, he gave us his e-mail so we can send him the Cambodian cartoon. He also told us he use to be a …

We met our driver at our fave Coffee place, then we headed straight to Angkor Thom, first we stopped st the South Gate of Angkor Thom which is stunning and has loads of statues. While we took some photos it was hilarious as we saw a monkey jump on to a tour bus and cause a big commotion, it was so funny....I kept my distance! When we got back in …
