Pavones-- Surfing 2nd longest break in the world

... and located right in the heart of town.

It was time to hit the surf! It turned out our lack of experience took a toll on our confidence as we didn't realize the break was right over the top of rocks. Right away we both found it difficult to get into the surf because we were stumbling over rocks. Secondly, we found the waves to be a little larger then they looked like from the shore. These two factors combined made it difficult for us to catch the waves. This ...

Osa Peninsula, Oh So Pretty!

... was definately where we wanted to be.

Golfito is a sleepy town, nestled in a bay and extends in a very long line along the coast. It is also known for its tax free shopping area, a factor that draws huge crowds of Central Americans on the weekends snapping up electronics etc. We ended up staying not far from the tax free area in a cool cabina that offered us a comfy bed, en suite bathroom and, best of all, cable tv with a 24 hour movie channel! We must have watched 8 ...

Corcovado Jungle Trek, day 3/3

... on this trail seemed to be much less afraid of humans; for example, as I was sitting on a log putting my shoes back on after we'd gone for a much-needed dip in a river, there was a coati scrabbling around in the undergrowth only a few feet behind me! Another memorable incident was when a snake -one of the few animals that Monica loathes - slithered across the path only inches in front of her... I didn't know anyone could scream that loud! The final ...

Day # 5 Travelling to Corcovado (Osa)

... one horse hick town, wouldn't really fancy staying around for to long though. However, we saw 2 sloths on the side of the road during the drive, and the highlight had to be the two guys about 25kms out of Manuel Antonio placing stones on the road!! They both had hi-vis vests on, looked very official, and were placing, at set intervals measured with a tape, stones in the middle of the road... A worthy job I'm sure, but it did ...

... trip, I also saw a stingray jumping in and out of the water, pretty close to my kayak. Puerto Jimenez is my favorite place in Costa Rica. There is a great mix of tourists, expats, and locals, and the town is somewhat small (4 by 7 blocks) so it's pretty intimate. The locals are very friendly and much more open than locals in other towns I've been to. The wildlife is everywhere, you only need to look into the trees to see some of the animals listed above ...

... kind of scary and definitely weird to see a shark in a freshwater river. As we floated on, we heard a noise on the bank and we saw a big tapir heading to the water. We watched him as we drifted by and took as many pictures as we could. We paddled upstream a little to see him more, and he got into the river, swam across, and got out on the other side. It was amazing to see such a rare creature. He had a really cute nose like a short elephant trunk. In the ...

wow, there is nothing here except jungle and beach

... was the crappiest and it cost 20 bucks a head. Pretty expensive for getting absolutely nothing. It was a glorified shack with some bunk beds in it. 20 bucks. Oh well, not much of an option since we are in the middle of no where. Our only other option is the nicer hotelish cabinas for 87 dollars a person a night. They kind of have electricity. Seriously though, there is nothing here. The dirt ...
