Flores, Guatemala wyllie_coyote... the side of the temples. I also climbed Temple IV, which is the highest temple – and where the peak apparently is the only spot in the entire park from where there is mobile phone reception. I forgot my phone, but it could have been a great spot from which to call home! The last temple we visited was the Mundo Perdido, which was the core astronomical temple at Tikal. In fact all the temples have been constructed and place meticulously to match the movement of the sun ...
Tikal National Park, Guatemala chrisser71... lot of illness on the island last month so they held off celebrating until Oct. It was the usual floats, blaring music and brightly coloured costumes, afro/carribean dancing, lots of booze, locals being sick later on, that kind of thing. On Wednesday 14th we took a bus to Flores in Guatemala which we thought was going to be a nice air-conditioned bus but after an hour and a half wait it turned out that our nice big, air-conditioned ...
Flores, Guatemala cassiejenkins... a nightmare, though it seems they are running a new road outside of the existing island by stealing some of the lake. Will give a nice malecon, easier lake access for swimming and all round views as well as alleviate many traffic jams.

Getting a bus trip to El Salvador has proved a challenge as I wish to avoid both capitals and nobody can give me ...

Tikal National Park, Guatemala huntjody... is a sure way to burn the candle at both ends.

The second bus I caught had two people in it, the driver and myself. I chose to think of it more as my limousine. My limo took me through Belize, we had to stop at the boarder and get out. I had to take my big bag to customs. When they asked me what was in it I thought of telling them about the guns and drugs, but instead told them it was clothes, they let me ...
Flores, Guatemala jaspergreene... Not long into the trip we found ourselves at a full stop in the middle of the highway as a large truck crashed blocking the entire road. It was at least an hour in the sweltering heat before they finally got traffic moving again. Some got off the bus to see the heat was any less extreme outside (it wasn't) and to get a gander at the accident, but the driver threatened that if traffic started moving he would leave us behind. After that bit of excitement, the driver ...
Tikal National Park, Guatemala seraphim50... as he told me where to put my hands and to drop my legs into nothing whilst water streamed in between us which I had to go under. However, his explanation of the bigger picture was missing. I had no idea what I was descending into, what to expect in the darkness beyond and where I had to go after dropping down into the waterfall. He just repeated his mantra “Hold on, don’t let go, hold on.” And then he let me go and I dropped down into a dark pool, but ...
Flores, Guatemala hessShane says:
My Knee was still playing up a bit from the volcano tour so I opted out of running up and down ruins all day. Milli was up at 4:30am, which meant I too was up at 4:30am but at least I got to go back to sleep. About 8:30 I scratched a bit, ****** a lot, then walked down the very very quiet street in search of some fruit salad. Flores is an incredibly quiet island, and quite expensive, so I found myself a little lonely, sipping a chamomile tea at a restaurant while ...
Flores, Guatemala shanemilliWhat is it with the 1980s MC Hammer circus clown pants that European backpackers wear? Seriously, would they wear that **** back home in Helsinki or Milan? Picture oversized orange trousers made of a gauzelike material complete with thin stripes of every color in a crayon box. I really like how they tuck them into their socks to create that extra flare, especially when the wind hits them. Enough of that, I know you didn't log on here to read about ...
