Ruwenzori Mountains, 25 minutes from Fort Portal Fort Portal, Uganda, 256-77-221309
Our drive to the Ituri Forest takes about three hours this morning including a petrol stop in Fort Portal and many stops for photos of people and stunning views. We approach the Rwenzori Mountains and reach a point where we can see the Albertine Rift Valley and the Congo in the distance.
Our walk in the forest takes us to see the female hot springs and the male hot springs. Along the way we see baboons and a few species of monkeys, but the light doesn't yield good photos. After lunch ...
What could be a day from hell turns out to be absolutely divine, thanks to the spirit of adventure and cooperation of this exceptional group. Wake-up calls are at 4:30am, breakfast at 5am, and departure at 6am. One person is dreadfully ill from something eaten the night before, but carries on admirably in spite of it all. We actually roll out before 6am, and commence the long drive back to Kampala, around that nightmarish traffic jam, and then across country to Fort Portal. The drive takes ab...
Fort Portal, Kabarole, Uganda wareameye We have a civilized departure this morning to visit the Bigodi wetlands for bird watching and primate viewing. Several of the gang decides to remain at the lodge today and luxuriate in the lovely surroundings and fine service. The drive takes us back to Kigale National Park, where our friends the baboons are still hanging out on the highway. We get great views of colobus monkeys on the way into the wetlands, and several perform acrobatic feats flying from one tree to another.

... 3 in the front and 4 in the back. Nine people later we set off up the hill on a rutted road for 20 minutes. As i got out my right leg collapsed under me as it hadn't had any blood for a while!
The camp was amazing, surrounded by beautiful birds and monkeys everywhere. Spent a couple of lazy days ( mainly due to the horrendous weather) but did manage a 3 hour hike on the day before we left.

... quite a shining to young david and his
choice of underwear! She inquired with James why David was wearing somebody else's underwear called Ted Baker? Hilarious!!
She also commented on the lovely array of colours dave has for his underwear, too funny! so now every time she throws
something in the bin and "misses" we all have a giggle as dave has to get up and bend over in front of her and pick it up
for her!!! ha ha ha!!
That night however, was not so amusing ...
... June in the crater lakes region near to Fort Portal. I was especially pleased about this as I had been there just about a month previously, to go chimp tracking. It is a very pretty region of Uganda and I had hoped I would get another opportunity to visit it.
All of us had to work that morning so asked the driver to come at 1430. Of course at 1430, not one of us was ready. Moreover, we seemed to have a sizeable amount of luggage, that was growing at an alarming rate ...
... and the towns located on the road to Fort Portal - are more popular among locals than among tourists. In Uganda, when a bus arrives at any town that is larger than 50 inhabitants, few locals tend to run towards the bus, selling different types of snacks, including cold bottles of water (in 0.25$), skewered meat, fried corn, chiapatti (the Ugandan version of Mexican tortilla or Middle-Eastern Pitta) and more. A similae occasion has happened to us ...
Fort Portal, Uganda gsella... and using a torch they found out that they had loads of ants crawling up their legs. In Kibale Forest National Park we were trekking mans closest relative - chimpansees. They are very different to gorillas as they are smaller, but still bigger than you expect and they make a lot more noise as well. As soon as one chimp makes a warning shout it is echoed by all the other chimps ...
Kibale Forest, Uganda ccinafrica... On our first descent to the lake, we were greeted by a troup of the latter. Some of them were very interested in what we might have to offer. Others could only stop play fighting long enough to give us brief glances. One, perhaps the drum major of the group, tried his best to impress us with all the twirling and throwing tricks he could do with a twig.
Lake Nkuruba, Uganda jef_smi... roots - but slipped on the moss and had a hufe bruise on my bum to prove it! The last hour walking back, at the speed the guide and Karl walk really took it out of me and I had aches and pains the next day to remind me of it! I think it was the longest walk I have ever been on.. with all this walking you'd think that I would be rapidly losing weight huh!?! my question is why not!??! The guide was really good. I just couldn't believe that he was not getting paid anything by ...
