... is not far from being all blue again. Yippee!!
Got the snorkeling gear together and wandered along the edge of the lagoon towards the beach near Tiana’s. It was just too murky to have any idea of what was under your feet. Too many small outcrops of dead coral and rocks and not worth risking cutting your leg open so we gave up.
Pretty much spent the whole day sitting in the cottage reading and doing puzzles.

Rarotonga, Southern Cook Islands, Cook Islands hallouwe... had pretty much the same plants to: tomatoes, green peppers, onions, beets, watermelon and eggplant. Nothing exotic.. The city kids were impressed.. I was bored.. After I tour finally ended we changed for our progressive dinner. The progressive dinner was a dinner where we drove around the island and ate at different local's homes. Our starter was at Danny's house who welcomed us with papaya mimosas and a tour of his garden. He had coffee plants, avocado ...
Rarotonga, Southern Cook Islands, Cook Islands hanhanmarie... answers on a postcard please.
My first couple of days on the island was getting acquainted with my surroundings, white beaches, a beautiful still lagoon with waves breaking about 800 metres out on the reef that completely surrounds Rarotonga. The fish swim right up to the beach, beautiful Picasso fish and angel fish. The snorkelling is good, but the lagoon is really shallow so it is difficult to swim, unless you wade over masses of rocks and sea cucumbers ...
Rarotonga, Southern Cook Islands, Cook Islands diene... back down the other side of the trek was not quite as much fun. With the rain the track was now quite slippery . We stumbled and slid down the track. At some points it was impossible to stand so the track turned into a "bum slide". It wasn't long before we found a stream and by then the rain had stopped, for a bit anyway! We crossed the stream a couple of times and carried on walking with the stream in sight. At least it's ...
Rarotonga, Cook Islands southside... best black pearls! Sadly that information hasn't been widely employed by us this trip... Against advice and our better judgement, we went on the cross-island trek, which goes from Avarua in the north to Papua's waterfall on the south coast. This should have been an enjoyable and pleasant trek through the jungle. However, we decided to do it in monsoon-like conditions. It was all going well and we walked up to a peak called "the needle" where we could ...
Rarotonga, Cook Islands matt-bels... along while taking photos. I was exhilarated at how good it felt to puff and pant but be fit enough to keep up to Pa! My jogging back home paid off. We broke in our shoes quickly. It had rained he night before and we were very dirty at the end. The mud on our legs remained in place even after swimming at the water fall, and later scrubbing with soap and water. The panoramic view from the highest point, close ...
Rarotonga, Cook Islands jasieniukrtw... chalk and talk. Interested too in the books and noted some very familiar titles from Shortland Publications. Also of interest was the largest building, which seemed to be accommodation for students from the South Pacific University who are studying Marine Science. Returning to the ship by Tender took a while caused by the logistics of moving so many people 150 at a time. We met several more NZ couples today - Thames, Papamoa, Pukekohe, Auckland - from all around. Tonight's show was ...
On board Sun Princess, Cook Islands kayjays... yards from the Beach were absolutely stunning. We were pointed at a buoy about a 10 min swim from the beach which led to a live giant clam just under sea level, which was amazing to see. It was about a metre wide and full of energy! Aitutaki is an Atoll so we took a days lagoon cruise with Fred to see some of the spectacular sea life, something that everyone who visits this Island must do as the sights are truly spectacular. Lots of ...
