Volcanoes National Park Ruhengeri, Rwanda
2 hours later we drive into Ruhengeri. There are no street lights to be spoken of and yet there are still fleets of people walking along roadsides, or even in the middle of the road. People you only see when you're almost running over them. Or boys on bikes with water or milk holders on the back. I’d make it, driving here, but I’d be exhausted at the strain of watching out for all these people! Jimmy explains how there is a "leader" for every 10 houses who report to the leaders fo...
Ruhengeri, Rwanda ashling... we then got taken into the capital of rwanda, Kigali, to visit the genocide museum, which was absolutely shocking, im ashamed
to say i didnt know much about what had gone on there not so Long ago,
and its amazing how they have recovered from it all, was choking back the tears at the atrocities that happened and felt all the
guilt of the western world that seemed to have sparked off the whole ordeal:(
Rwanda is home to the Volcano national park which is home ...
... you can see how easy it would be to poach one of the habituated ones. Thankfully Christopher said there is no poaching in the area and it only occurs in the DRC where the political situation is still quite unstable.
All in all we’d only been gone from the Gorilla centre for about 2 hours. We sat back at the centre discussing our experience over lunch while we waited for our Gorilla Trekking certificates. Once done, we piled back into our taxi for our ...

These kids got to me. When they all stretched out their right arm and pointed their index and pinky to the camera with big smiles and Victor explained that gesture meant "I love you" I faltered. After well over half an hour we had to get on and I got back into ...
... Sabana, passed away earlier this year due to sickness. We’re shown a photo of each of the members, which includes 5 “kids”. Silverbacks are born after a 9 month gestation period (whaddayaknow, just like us) and weigh in at around a mere 1.5kgs. The females will attain an average weight of 100 kgs with some males getting as heavy as 200. They live in “families” with a leader and those males losing their rank can spend some days or weeks, months ...
Colline Nyarugina, Ruhengeri, Rwanda ashling... of fruits, and even whole pieces of sheet metal. There is nothing these people can’t carry on their heads. I know they have probably been doing it for thousands of years and it is a part of their culture, but with all the aid organizations teaching in all the different country’s, you would think they would teach a different method to transport things. But I guess if they don’t have things like carts, bikes, or even vehicles, so it makes ...
Ruhengeri, Ruhengeri, Rwanda travel_lover87Je reviens dans cette ville. Je pars voir les gorilles le lendemain en louant un taxi. Kabale, Kabale, Uganda vmarchal... gas being let go by the big guy. In the end we were around 4 feet from them for an hour and the experience was definitely worth it. The people who had done it in Uganda said that it was a lot better and they were not able to get as close ever though the family they saw had been bigger. I am happy with the experience and think it was worth the effort. I am now back in Rwanda in the capital of Kigali and plan to fly to Arusha tomorrow to see about hiking Kilimanjaro for a 7 day hike.
Goma & Bunagana, Congo - The Dem. Repub. mike_bright... and for the next few hours we were all trying to get pics but it was pretty hard as Patrick our driver was going like a bat out of hell. We arrived at Lake Bunyoni (Place of many little birds) and it was beautiful. This lovely campsite looking out over the lake. 8 of us went out on 4 canoes and had a paddle around the lake. It was a little more difficult for some.. :). We didn't do feck all else today apart from drink a few beers and chill out.
Lake Bunyoni, Uganda leonnatmckenna... hotel. In case anyone is imagining us in the lap of luxury..... this hotel is pretty rough, I think we were the only two people there other than a couple of UN reps. The room was very basic, and not exactly clean. But after our long couple of days the beds were all we needed... and one very small mosquito net which HM and I huddled under. HM got out the camp stove and we enjoyed a lovely dinner of Mr. Noodles....... or something along those lines ...
