Had a great time, but its also a lot of hard graft and most certainly not for bunny huggers or anyone adverse to meat or the occasional dead animal.. Well worth the visit.

... who were at the centre. They came to the centre last November after being sedated, having their horns removed (which involves pulling out the entire nasal cavity), and being left for dead. They were found by rangers and brought to the centre for medical care. In the pictures you will see that one of the rhinos still has a bandage across her nose as they are having trouble getting it to heal. They can never be sent back out into the wild. Evening ...

... and Johan and Andre stop and get us to move behind them. John has spotted a lone Cape Buffalo behind a tree about 150 meters away. It has spotted us, of course, and takes a few tentative steps toward us. It keeps it’s head up smelling the air and keeping an eye on us. We all stand still and the guides tell us to remain calm. After a few tense minutes, the buffalo decides to move away from us. John, Johan and Andre are very relieved. They said that they are ...

... master guide/ranger Kim and his trusty tracker Rodgers, not only did we spot the “Big 5” (Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino, and Cape Buffalo) within the first two days, we managed to see dozens of other uniquely African animals like cheetahs, duikers, kudu, hyenas and baboons. But the highlight occurred on our last game drive. We were fortunate enough to encounter a 13-member lion pride making their way through the ...

... and others mating - it was frantic!

We continued on and found the Hippos in a lake. They were quite placid, we hadn't disturbed these hippos like Kim and I had in Kenya by going down to the river bank. They protected the baby hippo but weren't ferociously blowing their bubbles this time! No crocodiles today, ironically they don't like the water when it's full they prefer shallow water.

We drove around looking for animals before ...

... Africa Our "bush lunch"was lovely and took place in a dried up river bed! The cooks were all there tending to a barbeque in the sand and we met Lawrence and had drinks while lunch was being prepared. Lawrence (he owns the lodges where we are staying and bought the 2,000 acres of land we are allowed to drive on in the jeeps) told us about the quartz rock in the river bed and we also talked about the evolution of the African man (different needs required different ...
