Ibo, Quirimbas Archipelago, Mozambique
... and I just enjoyed exploring the islands, amazing for whoever likes swimming in turquoise sea, eating fresh seafood and taking pictures of people with preserved traditions (see the pictures of the ladies and kids with wood-powder masks, beauty masks aiming at protecting from the sun, whitening and softening the skin)
Ibo, Quirimbas Archipelago, Mozambique flolafol... a very agressive beach boy, and a problem with the eldest daughter of Elena stealing money from me, I would have spend an awesome time in Pemba. In the end there was some really good, and some bad experiences there.
This has been the case throughout my travel in Mozambique. You cannot relax fully and let go in this country, you always have to be careful...
Pemba, Cabo Delgado, Mozambique flolafolNot a great accomodation, clean and enough as all the activities are turned on outdoor : walking or driving safaris. Not a lot of animals to see, but a very beautifull and amazing landscape.
And here it's adventure first
to have an idea www.taratibulodge.com
Fairwinds
Corto
Pemba, Mozambique corto... us of their infinity pool. Although, we did think we were going to get kicked out one day! The beach is in a beautiful bay surrounded by trees. It was a good place to relax and get rejuvinated to continue traveling. It has been some tough bus rides, even if it is easy it is still dehydrating and draining.
Pemba, Mozambique kytravels... was feeling ill and had been required to drive the 4 hour round trip to Nampula each of the previous two days for business, so we spared him having to go three times in three days, borrowed the car of Hafiz, the leader of the Muslim brotherhood on the island, and set out to Nampula with Kyle at the wheel.. Before we left, Jorge reminded us a few times to bring both our passports and licenses as being stopped by police at periodic checkpoints is a routine occurrence in Mozambique ...
Ibo, Quirimbas Archipelago, Mozambique kcgunther... daar net een maal 'n dag 'n bus of 'n taxi na die volgende dorp.As jy dit mis wag jy tot more.
Pemba, Mozambique oliviers... whole trip! Sardines, crackers, cookies, grape Fanta, Lords Gin and Schweppes tonic we purchased for the trip. Gin was only $1.50 for a half litre so we made sure we stocked up with plenty. The Dhow we were taking was only going half way to our destination and was going to pick up some supplies for the house Smitty was building. He'd bought the 2 acres of land, just off the beach for $5000! Spent the first 20 minutes on the boat ...
Ibo, Mozambique jonclark2000... to what can only be described as a very environmentally unfriendly and dodgy exhaust system. Boss had something dodgy going on with his visa but a quick bribe to the immigration official and the custom officials to not check his bag soon got us on the road again. The customs lady asked me for some 'Coke Cola' money to not search my bag also, but I politely refused. It was another few miles to the border where we all piled into a small ...
Mocimboa de Praia, Mozambique jonclark2000... buses, size is not an advantage, its sheer tenacity, will, and stubbornness - all areas where V excels ;) - also, I have to carry all the packs which V is not able to do). It was an epic battle to get on once the bus arrived, but V was successful yet again. The pushing, shoving, scratching, hair pulling, and elbows were not enough to stop V-Girl. She got us a couple of seats mid section. As I wormed my way on after securing our bags on board, the 30+ people already standing in ...
Ibo, Mozambique virginieandpaul... diving in what's supposed to be one of the most beautiful dive areas in the world. Bugger. We set off back to Pemba and the long drive back to Malawi for the "lake of stars" festival. We met loads of cool people on Ibo many expats and Saffers building lodges in Moz. As always many of the Saffers had questionable liberal pedigrees.
